Um, Whoops?

Remember the super cute dress I whipped out for myself last month? Somebody (first name: Laura) forgot a key property of wool when she did the wash last week!
I can easily cut it off an work it again... but really, I feel a bit like an idiot : )!  The big question, should I use superwash, or rework in the same yarn and handwash from here on out?
So, have you messed up anything lately?  Let's all share how human we are!

  1. Ok so I made a sock that would fit a giant! I didn't take the time to check my gauge because I made the pattern before with different yarn. I was knitting socks for someone 2 sizes bigger than me. The whole time I kept thinking the sock seemed really big, but I just kept going. Finished the sock and it was ginormous! Too big even for hubby. Lesson learned. I am human too. Thanks for sharing your "human-ness" ~ Christina

  2. Love the pics and had to laugh out loud! Yes, I have knitted a beanie hat that would fit 2 heads-but that was one of my first efforts. I am a bit better now!

  3. I just casted on 324 stitches for the 3rd time - first time due to miscount and second time due to twist when joined in round....

  4. Yikes!

My winging Oops: I didn't order enough yarn to finish a cardi I'm knitting for myself. From a pattern I designed. So sad that I did not read the Materials list as given...

    Now a beggin' I will go. ;p

I'm thinking superwash this time. :)

  6. My first attempt at intarsia was pretty bad recently. For me, it was case of too little information and not enough time reading the directions. I did get it though. :)

  7. Oh no!! It takes a big knitter to admit this oops but you know that we've all been there. My biggest recent oops was knitting one sleeve much larger than the other. Lessons learned, right?

    1. That's why I knit my sleeves two at a time... pesky gauge right?

  9. Thank you, Laura, and to all those who have commented so far. The photograph made me smile and laugh, and it is comforting and reassuring to know that even the most experienced and skilled knitters still have those "oops" moments! I am having a tug of war with a shawlette; not the pattern's fault, but just me not having enough time to knit and concentrate, and then feeling inept when I lose track and get confused. I hope you reknit the dress; it was charming. Super wash might be easier, but do go with the yarn that you love, even if it means washing by hand.
