Rhinebeck Giveaway and Cowltober!

Oh wow y'all... things have been going full pace!  I had all good intentions of reviewing Kate Atherley's new book for today's post, but life seems to have gotten in the way this week. I'm off again, this time to New Brunswick Canada for Knit East. I know I am going to have a blast... but this girl is a wee bit weary! I do believe I'll review Kate's book next week when I'm feeling a little more intellectual. I want to bring my brainiest self to Kate's work!

But, never fear! I got you a skein of yarn at Rhinebeck! Well, actually, Susan from A Riot of Color was a sweetheart and gave it to me when I couldn't stop drooling all over it. I think she probably couldn't sell it after I had my way with it. I am sad to see it go... but I know where to get more when I have a plan for it! Rhinebeck was phenomenal, I had a great time as always... the only thing it wasn't good for is the tired thing (see above). I did FALL IN LOVE with Harrisville's new yarn Turbine at the festival, and am getting some of that later today to cast on a bulky Jacket version of Hot Flash. At 2.5 sts/inch it is going to knit up quickly!
Base: A Riot of Color, Shindig 80% SW Merino/10% Nylon/10% Cashmere 435yds/100gr
Colorway: Fireworks

Have I told you it is Cowltober?  (I made that up!) Celebrate with 40% off all my eligible Cowl patterns (new and old) through the month!  Just use the code: COWLTOBER2015 at checkout!
This skein would make a stunning non-beaded Circo Cowl! Don't you think?

Time for a giveaway...
Who wants to win the skein of A Riot of Color shown above?

Just leave a comment below by 12pm (EST) on Oct 27th. It would be great to hear what you do to rejuvenate yourself... I might need to do that when I get home next week!

I will randomly choose a winner and announce them in next week's Friday giveaway post!

Last week's winner...
Congrats to Frosty0321.... Get in touch so I can send you your stunning skein of Rifton!

  4. I rejuvenate by blocking an entire day, and spending it "my way." Get up early, breakfast downtown, stop by the Farmers Market for veggies for the week, then disappear into the sewing cave for a day of making. Stop for an afternoon nap, then after dinner, knit on the couch with a class of wine and a good guilty-pleasure show.

  5. To rejuvenate I knit. I used to knit outdoors when possible, combining the best of both, but where I live now isn't always conducive to enjoying the outdoors. Knitting revives my soul and spirit and restores my serenity.

My rejuvination plan?...I pick a WIP, find a TV series I record on my DVR that I am behind on (sometimes a whole season!)...and plan on doing nothing but knitting and watching all day long. No feeling guilty about housework or anything else. My "batteries" feel fully recharged after a self-indulgent day spent like that. And I might even have a FO to show for it! I loved reading how everyone rejuvenates - lots of good inspiration here ... some of those are more the way I relax and recouperate ... but to rejuvenate and really rev my batteries back up, this extovert needs to go out and be with people - we go hang out with our good friends, their 2 Daughters (10 & 14-years old), and their wonderfully smart and loving dog, too - lots of laughter, playing with the dog, sometimes creating with either yarn or paper - always lots of laughter and good shared times! It reminds me of who I really am and always makes me feel better!

To bring myself back and relax at the end of the day, I knit! It's very therapeutic for me. And when I'm trying to "get away" and calm I'll zone out to some podcasts and knit away. When I get the chance with a day off, I'll retreat to the forest/woods/nature in general and just walk and enjoy my surroundings. I love it anytime of year, but autumn is the best for me.

  59. To rejuvenate I like to make a cup of green tea with ginger, find a good movie to watch while knitting. I was able to go to Rhinebeck for the first time two years ago and have wanted to go back every since. There's something magical about the place and the event; the leaves, the weather, the beautiful knitwear, and all the gorgeous fibers and yarn. Love the yarn!

  60. Those are soooo my colors! How I chillax is pretty simple. I either sit, lay down or anything in between, close my eyes and try to sleep. I say try, because during the day it's pretty hard for me to nap, so I just concentrate on relaxing. Sometimes I go into a semi-sleep, but I'm aware of what's going on around me. When I get up, I feel very refreshed. I guess for me it's a form of meditation.

In high school drama they taught us to lay on our back, spread out like an X, and think about relaxing the muscles of each part of the body, starting at the extremities and working in. I added a visualization that I was a leaf, taking in the sunshine, like golden threads moving through my veins and gathering at my heart. It relaxes me, and gives me more energy at the same time. 142. I'm a mom to 4 young girls (not to mention the husband and the dog of questionable intelligence) so I don't have much time for rejuvenation. I used to go for walkswalks, but between the kids and my Multiple Sclerosis that doesn't happen much anymore. So I guess it's me (after the kids are in bed), a glass of wine, Netflix and my current knitting project. I try to get as much done as I can before I pass out in my chair. Oh, and chocolate. Must have chocolate. :D

  144. Please don't try this at home: my "rest & rejuvenation" has come in the form of a broken tibial plateau. I couldn't find tinge to slow down, so Mother Nature slowed me down. These past two weeks in the bed have been restful...but the next 2 1/2 months will get old.

So take advantage of rest time...before it takes advantage of you!

  149. To rejuvenate myself I usually run a hot bubble bath, grab my favorite drink and book, turn out the lights in the bathroom and light loads of candles. Then I spend as long as I can, soaking in the tub.

  152. That is a gorgeous yarn! I like to lose myself in a good book to rejuvenate or a nice long walk in nature, or a paddle in a kayak. All restore me to balance and which one I do depends on the season and weather. Hope you are able to rest!

Hmmm - to rejuvenate - I love to spend a day at the beach, go hiking, or curl up in a quiet spot with a good book.

  154. I would love to make a cowl with that yarn! To rejuvenate I grab a stack of cookbooks, the cat, mug of coffee and find a nice comfy spot. dkpim on ravelry.

  155. Love that yarn! What I do to rejuvenate depends on what I need a break from. If it's work, it's a mental health day. If it's the kids, time away from them. It could be ladies night, time shopping alone, exercising. Most of the time it's knitting, and when I am too tired to even do that, then it's crashing on the couch and watching some good tv.

  156. I knit :)
And am in need of even more rejuvenation myself so I'll be getting a massage.

  164. Try not to overdue. I am just getting over some horrid version of a virus which was no fun I can tell you and when you're tired in public it's so easy to have a germ grab you. Have fun but take care. The yarn looks yummy.
