What's on The Needles? (and a Seven Sisters Yarn Giveaway!)

TGIF Y'all! What a week since the last giveaway.... all has felt quite unbalanced as of late, and as usual I am coping by knitting ALOT. I've finished a new mitten pattern, a shawl, knit alot of swatches AND I've got some fun stuff on the needles!

Remember those socks I told my honey were in his future... I'm almost done with the toe (on the first one). I still don't think I like knitting socks!
I'm working on another Adornament design as I am teaching them in a few weeks and I know a few of my students have already knit Stello, Stellita and Astellar. This way they'll have something new to try!
I got 2 skeins of Nona from Spirit Trail Fiberworks last weekend at KRR, and I have cast on the last sweater in the Novus Collection. I'm almost done with the sleeve which means I need to do some math before I can cast on for the front and back!
An obvious solution was also to order yarn to make Max a sweater. I haven't knit one for him in a long time. I know he wants a heavily cabled number, and that is still in his future, but for now I am knitting him Rift in Green Mountain Spinnery's Mewesic. It will be great "background" knitting on the cruise as the body and sleeves are knit in the round with simple shaping. I can handle that while chatting away! I don't have a deadline for this... it's fine if it takes a year, but in the end I will love knitting it and he'll end up with a new sweater (which he totes deserves!) I'm pretty sure this will be done before the stupid socks...
Oh, and did I tell you I'm trying something new and participating in the Indie Design Gift-A-Long in Ravelry this year?   I've got 15 patterns on sale for 25% off until November 27, 2015 at 11:59 pm (23:59) US-EST... just use the coupon code giftalong2015 at checkout. There are many different threads to enter your finished gift-knitting in to win prizes... you can enter with any of my designs or those of participating designers, and they don't have to be ones that you purchased on sale!

SO GO FORTH MY DEAR NELKINITES AND SPREAD THE WORD… this would be a great opportunity for you to get some gift knitting done and share my designs with people who don’t know them :)!

Finally, I wanted to update you on Knitting for Munich! So far we have shipped 502 hats to Munich from Canada and the US... there are even more waiting to be boxed up and sent out (I wait until I have a very full box for each shipment). The last date to send donations is Nov 30th. After that Andrea will let us know if they need more. I want to make sure the hats all get to where they are needed first. Thankyou so very very very much!

Time for a giveaway...
Karen from Seven Sisters Arts was at KRR... it was lovely to meet her! Karen used to be one half of String Theory Fiber Arts (the dyer I worked with on Skywalker) and she and I had many interactions/emails over the year but had never met in real life. She likes boots as much as I do, so clearly she is A-OK!
I kept drooling in Karen's both on her yarn, especially her gradient kits, I couldn't quite bring myself to get one as I didn't have a plan for it....  (and I'm a girl who likes a plan). BUT Karen gave me one to give to you! What do you think of that?  I chose this insanely stunning gold/earthy combo in Meridian called Seaweed ... if you don't want it, I'm happy to keep it! Can you imagine a Magmatic Boom in it? Or a Clarus?

So, what's on your needles? Has the gift knitting started in earnest? Leave a comment below by 12pm (EST) on Nov 24th.  I will randomly choose a winner and announce them in next week's Friday post!

Last week's winner...
Congrats to ....  Carolm7323 Get in touch so I can get you your arm knitting kit! You lucky winner! I promise this will make your arms buff!

  1. I am only knitting socks for my FIL, no other gift knitting planned and I want to get them done, so I can cast on the yearly mystery KAL shawl for myself that Crocodile Barbara has designed for the Funnies group on Ravelry. Just one more foot to knit, totally doable.

  2. I just finished a scarf as a gift for someone only to find out they're travelling until January. So now I must debate keeping it and making her another later ;)

  3. So many beautiful things to knit! Thanks for the gorgeous giveaway!

  4. Gift knitting has started...late, as usual. I knit new hats for my hubby and two kids every year. I hate sock knitting, but everyone loves my socks...whenever I get around to making them a pair. That yarn is gorgeous. Thanks for the lovely giveaway.

  5. I'm not doing much gift knitting this year. But I do have a cowl on the needles for my mother's friend from work.

  6. Oh my gosh what a beautiful colorway! I am gift knitting like crazy! Almost done with a shawl for my oldest Sissy and a pair of socks for the other sister. Not sure yet what to knit for my Mom. Something with my handspun because I know she'll treasure that. Hubby just got a sweater for Rhinebeck so he may have to wait until next year for another hand knit treasure. My daughter is going to school in Orlando Florida. I don't think she needs anything handknit down there. IF I have time maybe a pair of socks for my son.

  7. Yes, gift knitting is well underway. I've knitted four Magmatics, a Lapso hat, some Beaded Wave Cuffs and a few other things. I am going to try Ribband for the GAL, am currently working on Cable Charms Cap and want to start an Artichoke French in the worst way! Would lovingly take that beautiful gradient set off your hands and knit something to make you proud! Hugs, Kelly (lautakel)

  8. I don't usually knit gifts for specific people, but this year has been the year of the cowl. I don't think I can wear them all, so I think several of them may become gifts, for birthdays if not for Christmas. I LOVE Seaweed!

  9. I have several things going at once. A hat, a shawl, and Zuzu's Petals. You made a beautiful choice in colors for the giveaway! This would be a great gift for me, as I'm also about to finish up my Masters! YAY! More knitting time in my future!

  10. I finished my last planned gift knitting last night: a pair of toe-up socks with a gusseted, short-row heel. Before that, I'd finished Biplex cowl, Circo, Woodburne (Carol Feller pattern), and a pair of lacy socks, all for gifting. On my needles currently is Liathite (Feller) and tomorrow I'm starting another Gusto plus I have a second Cruzado planned along with Las Cruces. And....I'd love those gorgeous skeins of wool for a yet-to-be-named project. Great give-away!!

Fortunately most are very near completion, the 2nd sock of a pair started two years ago, a hat, the edging on Skywalker, please with how that turned out and a major new project, Miss Grace, a shawl that is from a very unique pattern. I love the color scheme you picked Laura.

  50. I love knitting sweaters so I have two sweaters on needle. But they're both firsts for me. First yoke and color work sweater (Sheep Go Round) and first aran sweater (Cross Country Aran). But those are put away while I work feverishly on gifts and other things with a deadline. I'm making Spatterdash mitts for people who are giving a gift to the Yarn Mission (http://theyarnmission.com), and am making phone pockets that I designed for the Yarn Mission store (with a Thanksgiving deadline). I'm making ornaments as gifts (Arne & Carlos), and hats for the Minnesota Knitting Guild's service project. We're giving knit items to women's shelters (they need everything). I have a hat and skirt waiting to be blocked, as well as all the Spatterdash mitts I've finished. And buttons (so many--28 buttons per pair) to add to the mitts. I have other things in my head just dying to get onto needles. But I've sworn to NOT put them on needles until I get more finished!

I am currently working on Ballyfaron, the cowl, which is taking forever as there are so many cables and I prefer to use a cable needle as I am holding two K1C2 cria lace together which does not bode well for cabling without a needle. I completely understand about socks and wanting them but not necessarily enjoying the knitting process. I must have 4 or 5 pairs started in various stages and too much sock yarn to count.

I just completed a commission from my mom for a pullover for my cousin/her neice which introduced me to my biggest needles yet (size 13). My current project is a giraffe toy in fisherman's wool. A nice Celtic cable across shoulder back and the center back. Really cool. But my hubby and I need really warm hats out here on the range. We feed our horses in single digit weather. 115. I'm not working on holiday gifts (I never make the deadlines for knitting, so I just bake cookies). Right now I'm working on a couple of pairs of socks which I'm not sure if I'll be giving away or not. There are also a couple of baby gifts which I should start soon.

  128. I just finished a Baby Sophisticate for a wedding shower, and I cast on for a pair of fingerless gloves for me last night (Fetching, because I've knit them a million times and basically know it by heart). Once I finish those, I have two Christmas gifts to knit - I'll be doing a headwrap (probably Turban(d)) for my work Secret Santa, then another smallish knit yet to be determined for my book club Secret Santa.

  130. I'm usually a monogamous knitter, but I find myself with 2 sweaters in progress (for me), Mermaid by Hannah Falkenberg that I've been working on for over 2 years; a Crazy Stripes Tee that I'm not liking the neck increases I've done and it will probably be frogged and started over. But I'm going to make my 2 sisters the Corkscrew hat in Green & Gold (Packer colors) - finished the band on one. Plus I'm doing very simple fingerless mitts for 4 close friends. Lots to do before Christmas!
