Knit For Food Knit-A-Thon 2023

SIGN UP OR DONATE TO 2023's Knit for Food Knit-a-thon!!!

When we did the first Knit For Food Knit-a-thon in 2021, I had no idea what to expect. Would people be excited to do this? Would anyone sign up? Could we meet our fundraising goal of $25K??

You all blew me away.

Not only did 744 people sign up to knit or craft for the marathon, but we raised $265,810!!

Then, in 2022 we had our 2nd annual knit-a-thon, and raised $271,761! Knitters have raised over half a million dollars with our knitting needles!! Can you even believe that?!

I have always felt proud to be a part of the knitting community, but never as much as I do during the knit-a-thon. I am blown away by everyone’s willingness to give their time, their money, or both.

My daughter, Bella, is who inspired the first KFF Knit-a-thon. In the summer of 2020 she had an Americorps position with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. Through her, I learned that 12% of the population in my region is food insecure, and that 41% of people served at the food bank are children (source).  I had no idea!

One thing the pandemic has taught us is that the most vulnerable populations are the ones hit the hardest during a crisis. I have always believed in giving back to my community, and I'm even more motivated to do that now, when so many people are in need.

Without further adieu, I am proud to announce the THIRD Annual Knit For Food Knit-a-thon!

What’s a knit-a-thon?! It’s a knitting marathon. Yes, MARATHON! Those of us participating are committing to knit (or craft) for 12 hours straight in order to raise funds to help alleviate food insecurity.

100% of the money we raise will be split equally between Meals on Wheels, World Central Kitchen, No Kid Hungry, and Feeding America.

The knit-a-thon will take place virtually on March 26th, from 10am-10pm ET. There will be some programming throughout the day (music, speakers, breakout knitting rooms, yoga, stretching, knitting ergonomics, etc.). We’ll also hear from each of the four organizations that we’re fundraising for, to learn more about the work they’re doing.

The zoom programming is completely optional! You could stay home alone, get together with another knitter, or gather with a group of crafty friends at your LYS and stay offline. The choice is completely yours.

Want to participate, but don’t knit? That’s ok! Any craft is welcome!

So you’re probably wondering: What do I do next to get involved?!

There are THREE different ways you can take action:

1. Sign up to knit! Reach out to friends and family and ask them to sponsor your marathon. (Click Join the Knitathon just under the "banner".

2. Donate! Your money can help give someone a meal. (click the DONATE button)

3. Spread the word! Tell your friends, family, guild, LYS, and any knitter you know! Use the hashtag #knitforfood
