DIY Furoshiki No-Sew Bag: Exclusive N Club Project (and You Can Make One, Too!)
Hello to all my N Club members!
And hello to all the rest of you who are curious about this special no-sew DIY bag!
2024’s N Club members received a special goodie in their latest shipment, and it’s time to dive into the DIY project—creating a furoshiki-style bag with a simple leather handle. Not a member yet? No worries. You can still follow along and make your own with the instructions and supplies below.
Curious about the N Club?
The N Club is my flagship knit club. It’s where I get to do my thing. Each year, I pour my heart into this club, ensuring it brings new yarns to your doorsteps and new techniques to your needles— plus awesome goodies (like this bag!). This is where I really get to express myself as a designer. Each year, members receive 3 exclusive kits that I design exclusively for them.
Let’s Make The Bag: Easy Step-by-Step Instructions
Ready to get started? Let’s make your DIY furoshiki-style bag:
- Wash your fabric – Start with fresh, clean fabric.
- Iron your fabric — Don’t skip this step!
- Cut it into a square – The length of your fabric will dictate the square size, you want it to be at least 36 inches [90 cm] square.
- Finish the edges – Turn the edges under once with a half-inch seam allowance, adhere fuse-able interfacing to that folded edge, and fold once more ironing well, or you can fold twice and sew this edge down.
During our N Club unboxing live video, I walked members through these steps with a little more detail, it was so much fun!
Once your fabric square is prepped check out this detailed video tutorial here — this will guide you through the final steps, like folding the fabric and attaching the leather handle to complete your furoshiki-style bag.
Need Supplies?
What you’ll need:
-
Washed piece of fabric, at least 36 inches square. I like a fabric that is a yarn-dyed woven as it is patterned on both sides.
-
Iron and ironing surface
-
Quarter-inch fusible tape or a sewing machine and matching thread
