Trapeze Mystery KAL: Starts August 17th
It's time for another Mystery KAL, who wants to play with me?
Schedule:
Clue #1- August 17th
Clue #2- August 24th
Clue #3- September 7th
Clue #4- September 14th
Clue #5- September 21th
Clue #6- September 28th
How it works: Sign up by purchasing the pattern prior to August 17th for a discounted price of $5.00 (You can sign up later and receive the previous clues, but I think it's more fun if you start it right from the get-go!) After August 17th the KAL will be $7.00When you sign up you will be sent a pdf with a materials list and gauge to be ready to cast on.
On each scheduled clue release date an updated pdf will be sent to you with the next clue. There will be videos made just for the KAL to help you, and an active thread in my group on Ravelry so that you have lots of support and FUN while you are knitting.
Note: This KAL is not as challenging as Kinetik (winter 2012's mystery KAL), and will make for some GREAT summer knitting. Beads aren't introduced until Clue #3, and are easily omitted if working with beads isn't for you!
So, sign up for the KAL here or on Ravelry here, and then get on over to my Ravelry group and start chatting about your yarn (and bead) choices!
Is this like a 'surprise' pattern, you don't know what you will be knitting until you are finished??? Is is $5 for each clue or just the first time? peg
ReplyDeleteIt is a surprise... you won't know what you are making until it's further along in the clues! You only pay once to purchase the pattern, and each new clue is sent to you on the release date!
Deleteany chance we could at least get a yarn weight and amount before committing $5.00?
ReplyDeleteYes, sorry! All of the details are in the links above:

Hi, I am between a beginner/intermediate knitter, with emphasis on beginner so this looks a little over my head. Will start, however, your beading class download I purchased and know I will have fun with that!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, would you be good enough to tell me the name of the gorgeous pumpkin and aqua yarn in the above picture. I must get this scrumptious yarn! Thanks much, Barbara
Of course! I'm actually not sure if this will be over your head or not... it's no where near as "hard" as my other mysteries... and it is sure to be FUN!
DeleteAnd whoops! The yarn I used is Madeline Tosh Sock in Burnished... isn't it a gorgeous colorway?
DeleteI have my 'Pattern' and have set up my Rav Project page and posted to the Rav thread.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be GOOD ! ! ! !
Can i get a WOOT WOOT?
DeleteHi Laura,
ReplyDeleteIs this a new pattern or one that's on your website?
Sounds like fun!
It's a brand new pattern, designed specifically for this Mystery KAL... and I promise it will keep you on your toes!
DeleteI'M SOOOOO EXCITED!!! I didn't know about these KAL thingies until you finished Kinetik last time. But this time I am on top of it! Lead on, Jedi Master ;-)!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a lot of fun,
ReplyDeletejust how much time would I need for the knitting and getting along with the clues? We have 3 birthdays and one wedding between 20th and 26th of August,
so i won´t have any time during that period.
Would it still be possible to be part of that KAL and understand what´s going on?
Thanks for your answer,
Andrea
Hi Andrea!
ReplyDeleteI've built in a week break for the labor day weekend between clues #2 and #3, so you'll have plenty of time to get back on track!
Congrats on all your August celebrations! Laura
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeletethanks for your reply.
So I can sign up for the KAL
and still enjoy our party-marathon....
Looking forward to my first "mystery-knitting"!
Andrea
Hi Laura,
ReplyDeleteand after signing up there is my next question:) :
The sock yarns you recommend for knitting the KAL with beads have different gauges, some are even 28 stitches for 4 inch. Since I knit rather loose, I would never be able to get a gauge of 22 stitches with that, because I always need smaller needle-sizes than recommended to get a good-looking knitted piece.
For example, the last yarn I bought should have a gauge of 18 stitches and I ended up with 22.
So I definitely have to look out for more heavier yarn, to be able to fit the gauge, right?
Thank you in advance again....
Andrea
Hi! Easy, you are looking for a fingering weight yarn and the ball band will say 28 sts over 4 inches, you are then going to work with bigger needles, I used size 5, to get a gauge of 22 sts over 4 inches blocked. It's all about what size needle you choose!
DeleteHave you joined my Ravelry group? Questions like this are great to ask in there as you'll get instant help and advice!
Laura
I am signed up for your Lace class at Craftsy and looking forward to doing that, but I had to sign up for this one too. It sounds like fun --even if I just 'lurk' and learn for a bit. Thanks. Cathy
ReplyDeleteWonderful! So glad you are joining us!
DeleteCan I sign up even if I haven't finished Skywalker yet? Have spent so much time knitting back and am stuck in the planet section. I was hoping to finish before our trip to the mainland, but am still trying to work on it. We are visiting family in Washington State, and will be here for another two weeks. I brought yarn to start Clarus while I'm here and after I finish Skywalker. Thanks, and aloha, Patty
ReplyDeleteHi! You definitely can.... this mystery might even be a bit easier than Skywalker, and you'll own the complete pattern in the end, so even if you don't complete it on schedule you can "get around" to it! Thanks for asking!
DeleteI am signed up for your Lace class at Craftsy but have not finished Skywalker yet either. I have crocheted since a little girl, but recently just learning to knit and am a bit slow, but I would love to do this mystery KAL as well. It sounds interesting and a way to learn more. I am really enjoying all your videos for the lace class at Craftsy. You make it look so easy, and the videos really help me with stitches that I do not know how to do. Your patterns are just beautiful so this KAL would be great!
ReplyDeleteoops forgot to ask - I have some difficulty in choosing the correct yarn for projects. I have not quite gotten used to working with lace weight yarn yet. Are there some yarns that you would recommend please? Could this KAL be done with a bit thicker weight yarn that would be easier for a beginner like me? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI've got lots of information about choosing yarns for this KAL in my Ravelry group:

There is also alot of discussion about yarn and bead choices here:

Thanks again!
Thanks for the links. Can't wait for August to get started.

Hi, Laura!
ReplyDeleteHave completed Sky Walker & Clarus...ready for the next challenge. Yeah, for Mystery KALs. I am thinking of using Prism Delicato, will this be okay with beads? Would 6mm beads be too big? Also, are two lengths of Sz 5us needles necessary or would a 32" length work for the project? Thanks and hope you are enjoying your vacation!
Maria
Hi! Delicato would be just lovely... But you do need to use size 8 beads, the size 6's are too big and heavy for this project! And there has been some discussion about the different size lengths of size 5 needles in my Ravelry group. First off before buying needles, do a gauge swatch as you might have to go down or up to get gauge. You can use one longer length needle if you are comfortable working magic loop, otherwise you do need both lengths. Thanks to you!
DeleteThank you so much! Ordered my 8/0 beads and will swatch tomorrow for gauge! Will use the two needles because I'm not comfortable with magic loop. You are such a great help! Much appreciated,
DeleteMaria
Hi Laura and everyone,
ReplyDeleteWhat size beads should be purchased? 8mm, 6mm, etc. also which type of bead would you recommend? Glass seed beads? Just a bit unsure of what to purchase never did knitted beading before. I was thinking of using the Japanese seed beads. Would that work? Thank you.
Hi Dot!
DeleteHave you joined my Ravelry group? Link is above. These questions (and lots more) have been covered in a FAQ there. The information is also on the pattern page, and initital pdf you will receive when you sign up. Size 8 glass seed beads, japanese are best, so you are right on track with that!
Thanks so much, I'm thrilled you are joining in!
ooh, very excited, this is my first kal and my first time working with beads. But I did take your class and learned Skywalker and Clarus and really enjoyed those so I'm ready to take another leap. Where's a good place to get beads on line?
ReplyDeleteCathie
Hi! Exciting... Glad you are joining in!
DeleteHave you checked out my Ravelry group yet? There is a Faq that lists many places to puchase quality beads online!
Will this pattern be charted, written or both?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Sue Rosenbalm
Both : )!
ReplyDeleteBeeyootiful mittens, they are my favorite . I love the jewelry designs too specially the bracelets cuz I'm a bracelet girl. Thank you for sharing you r creativity!
