A Question of Closure....
Oh, I know some of you have been waiting on this design for a long time! It took a weekend to knit and two months to write, grade, tech edit, test, tech edit again, and photograph! So, now that it is officially almost ready I thought I would ask you which closure you like best?
When I designed Novus Jacket I knew I wanted to use a piece from Jul and Laura (the owner and designer) was kind enough to send me 3 very different options...
Time for a giveaway...
So, which do you like best? The random winner will get their choice and a free pattern when it is released next week (hopefully!)
I will randomly choose a winner and announce them when the Novus Jacket is released!
Some old business
Life got busy and I took a break from Friday giveaways and realized I never awarded the AMAZING gradient set from Seven Sisters Fiber Arts... that must be because I wanted to keep it!
Congrats to Karen Kugler .... Get in touch so I can send you your yarn!
Oh, and because I know many of you have been waiting for this pattern for a while I have posted the yarn/materials information in my Ravelry group so you can go yarn shopping this weekend! I get to go to a retreat at my local yarn shop tomorrow morning, and I think I'll wear mine and give everyone a sneak peek!!

Laura, this is gorgeous!! I like the classic shawl pin choice, but they're all very fun. Yet another pattern I have to add to my queue.

ReplyDeleteLove the Shawl pin!
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for shawl pin!
ReplyDeleteI like the Gate Hinge
ReplyDeleteLeather latch closures. I think they go better with the shape of the sweater and don't take the focus away from the sweater but compliment it.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely the shawl pin... the other two are just... jarring? shiny? something..

ReplyDeleteCarolm7323 on Ravelry. Maybe I can get this one right. Laura you are one heck of a designer. Love the sweater and love the Gate Hinge closer.
ReplyDeleteI like the shawl pin closure, the pattern is awesome, I think I may have to give it a whirl!
ReplyDeleteThese are really fun! I think I like the Classic Shawl Pin best!
ReplyDeleteI like the middle one. I find shawl pins annoying on sweaters.
ReplyDeleteGinnyG on Ravelry
I like the shawl pin, mostly I think because I like the overlap for that sweater.
ReplyDeleteI love how the shawl pin looks
ReplyDeleteI love the shawl pin the best.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I like the gate hinge, I think the shawl pin is better if you prefer to wear it open as well as the lower price.
ReplyDeleteLaura, can't wait to make this one!!
I like the Classic Shawl Pin best!
ReplyDeleteI liked the shawl pin
ReplyDeleteI vote for the shawl pin but I also like the first one.
ReplyDeleteI definitely like the shawl pin the best!

I definitely like the shawl pin the best!

All beautiful but I like the shawl pin best
ReplyDeletelesatustin on Ravelry
I like the shawl pin although I probably wear it a little higher as not to impale myself.
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt, it's the shawl pin for me. Also, it allows for a little growth by the wearer!
ReplyDeleteI like the shawl pin the best, although the three closures is a close second. I'm manneko on Ravelry.
ReplyDeleteI like the simplicity of the classic shawl pin. The sweater looks lije an enjoyable amd easy knit and is perfect for a bag of yarn that I won on the cruise.
ReplyDelete.... amd my Ravelry name is hilljs
DeleteI like three closures as it appears that you could use one,two or three of them. Susan YAYB on Rav
ReplyDeleteLove the leather latch closures
ReplyDeleteI love the classic shawl pin. The pattern is gorgeous. :)
ReplyDeleteThe pin looks the nicest, but the gate hinge looks the easiest and least fussy to use. I like the way it looks in these photos better than on FB! And that makes no sense, since they are probably the same.
ReplyDeleteThe shawl pin is easy as many folks already have one but I like the statement the gate hinge makes. It's different and upbeat.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the shawl pin! The others look too dark and possibly too heavy for the piece. Love the pattern :-)
ReplyDeleteKattolio on Ravelry
DeleteI like the gate hinge the best, but wish it was just a bit smaller and the color of the shawl pin. Revelry id lynne5600
ReplyDeleteI like the gate hinge the best, but wish it was just a bit smaller and the color of the shawl pin. Revelry id lynne5600
ReplyDeleteI guess I will be a sheep and follow the flock, shawl pin for me as well. I like the leather latch closures but maybe I need to see them on darker yarn. Stlwatrs on Rav.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the shawl pin, but find them fussy to wear. So the leather latch closures seem most wearable and wouldn't bee too bulky if worn unfastened. The gate hinge just seems too heavy. Looks like a cute easy-to-knit design!
ReplyDeleteTotally shawl pin!!! Love this knit!! -- RossFarm
ReplyDeleteI really love the classic shawl pin :)
ReplyDeleteI love the way the shawl pin photo seems to pull in the waist a bit, very polished!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't easy to choose, but I think I like the classic shawl pin best
ReplyDeleteOh, love this sweater and I also love the shawl pin with it.n that is my choice. Fingers crossed, pick me, pick me. Sorry, yarn elves made me do it 😊
ReplyDeleteOh and I am sleekymom on ravelry
ReplyDeleteSadly I'll sound like a broken record for the classic shawl really does that beauty justice!
ReplyDeleteLove the classic shawl pin option! I think it accents the contrast in the stitching patterns so beautifully.
ReplyDeleteLove the shawl pin, if you described them to me before I would have leaned towards the latches but the pin makes the jacket look more fitted.
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for the release of this pattern. Just in time for the cold snap that is coming! I think the Gate Hinged Closure looks perfect with the style of the jacket!
ReplyDeleteI like the leather latch closures
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for the release of this pattern. Just in time for the cold snap that is coming! I think the Gate Hinged Closure looks perfect with the style of the jacket!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous marriage between the pattern and the yarn - love it! I think I like the dramatic look of the gate hinge closure best.
ReplyDeleteDefinately the shawlpin
ReplyDeleteI like the classic shawl pin the best you're designs are awesome!
DeleteI prefer the shawl pin, which complements the sweater beautifully. The other two options would work better on a different type of sweater. This sweater has an earthy feel, and the shiny nature of the gate hinge and leather latches detracts from that.
ReplyDeleteClassic Waves Shawl pin is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love it with the Classic Shawl pin! Time to go shopping for yarn!!
ReplyDeleteRavelry name: banff1962
I really like this sweater and especially so with the wooden shawl pin for the closure.
ReplyDeleteI love the sweater and I prefer the shawl pin. :)
ReplyDeleteI like the leather latches. Gives the pretty sweater a slightly edgy look that I like. Thanks

ReplyDeleteI like the shawl pin!
ReplyDeleteThe Classic Waves Shawl pin is gorgeous and goes so well with the design!
ReplyDeleteRavelry: dragonwood
Classic Shawl pin. Definitely
ReplyDeleteShawl Pin. Gate Hinge is too large for silhouette. Shawl pin adds ability to adjust and classic lines. The three leather closures was a close second.
ReplyDeleteYup. Loving the shawl pin.
ReplyDeleteI like the Leather Latch Closures. I think they complement the design of the sweater.
ReplyDeleteLove the classic shawl pin!
ReplyDeleteheartwise
I love the leather latch closures, and thank you so much for sharing the beautiful design pictures
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern, especially with the shawl pin!
ReplyDeleteI like the gate hinge, and I love the design ... Thanks Laura for all your good work!
ReplyDeleteShawl pin is my preference. A great design as usual!
ReplyDeleteI think the gate hinge is a very sophisticated look and the one that I like best. The sweater is wonderful. Thanks, Laura!
ReplyDeleteI like the shawl pin the best. If you don't want it closed you just take it off.
ReplyDeleteI really like the leather latch closures. The are very unique and modern!
ReplyDeleteLaura, I like the shawl pin closure. It provides some shaping to it that the other closures don't provide. Its minimal but its definitely there. If you want it left open, all you have to do it remove it. I think the shawl pin gives you choices and shaping that lack in the other two closures. Lovely Jacket!!
ReplyDeleteI also much prefer the Shawl Pin....it also seems it would disturb the knitted garment the least and also is very versatile! I am knit1baketoo on Ravelry.
ReplyDeleteShawl pin! Love the sweater!!!
ReplyDeletefivenobles - Shawl Pin is the one I'd choose - but with might change my mind if knit in black...
ReplyDeleteHaa!! I like it very much! I might make it a little longer??
ReplyDeleteI love the shawl pin and the way the jacket become more fitted!
The leather latch closures really compliment the horizontal stitches. I love the color too.
ReplyDeleteGreat design! I like the classic shawl pin.
ReplyDeleteI like the shawl pin, but I think the leather latch closures give the sweater a more modern look.
ReplyDeleteFinnknitter
Shawl pin, it looked like it added the best shaping. Would like to see the leather latch closures again.
ReplyDeleteTHe shawl pin in the third photo is my favorite. THat said, when I wear shawl pins I always seem to stick my self with them, in the chin, in the gut or scrape my arm!
ReplyDeleteSareBearKnits on rav
The garment looks balanced with the shawl pin. The other closures you used dominate a bit and interrupt the smooth flow.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the shawl pin!
ReplyDeleteShawl pin, I like the overlap and shaping it create!
ReplyDeleteI like the shawl pin the best, leather latches second but they are too dark for the yarn. If they were tan leather I think they'd be my first pick. lynnephelps on Rav.
ReplyDeleteReally like the first pin, the circle one.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite out of the three is the shawl pin. Although I think maybe you should try the smaller lock toggle leather closure in chocolate brown, just to see how that looks too. Or maybe the mod loop ... ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great sweater! I like the last closure best, and the first closure second best.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
I like the shawl pin best!

The round shawl pin for me :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the leather latch closures. This jacket is so cool!
ReplyDeleteClassic Waves Shawl pin!!
ReplyDeleteI think that the shawl pin gives it a classy look.
ReplyDeleteI love this Cardi!! I like the Classic Waves Shawl Pin, but I would also like the Gate Hinge on a slightly darker yarn/seater. So excited for the release of this pattern.
ReplyDeletePokyJo on Ravelry
Definitely the shawl pin is my fave! Rav ID ramonafirehorse
ReplyDeleteThose leather latch closures are so different - the great contrast gives the cardi just the right look :)
ReplyDeleteThe shawl pin - it's elegant. Rav ID wondering04
ReplyDeleteWow! My first choice would be the shawl pin. I think the circle contrasts well against the linular nature of the pattern. Second would be the leather latch closures. I like the repetitive aspect. Hard to choose!
ReplyDeletetwosaners on Ravelry
I like the 3 closures, followed by the shawl pin.
ReplyDeleteRav id: whistlinliz
I like the shawl pin closure. I think the sideways knitting would be really fun.
ReplyDeleteRav ID nafoster
Definitely the shawl pin, of the three options you were sent.
ReplyDeletePoking through the Jul website, the Renaissance Hinge closure might be my first choice for your lovely sweater.
The pin is the most elegant, but I think I'd rather wear the leather ones, as I like being able to completely close up the front.
ReplyDeletecarolsumie on rav
My favorite is the classic shawl pin! Rav ID andreatl
ReplyDeleteI love the leather latch
ReplyDeleteI like the circular shawl pin
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sweater design. My choice would be the Classic Waves Shawl Pin.
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern and just in time for me to look at yarn for it at VKL in NYC next weekend! While all of the closures are great, I love the classic shawl pin and would pick that.
ReplyDeleteI like the classic shawl pin best.
ReplyDeleteI like the latch closures- but I would wear only one. I think each closure would suit a different body type. The gate hinge would make me look huge. The shawl pin is pretty but not my style
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm very traditional at heart because I like the Classic Waves Shawl Pin best. And what I can see of the sweater looks great! AnneSATX on Ravelry
ReplyDeleteI vote for the latch closures, but would only use two of them, more centered below the V-neck. (The shawl pin is pretty, but I find that these don't always stay closed!)
ReplyDeleteThe shawl pin! The bow tie (aka gate latch) looks too big and clunky. The smaller latch ones are okay but look a little off center...
ReplyDeletePretty sweater...
Definitely the shawl pin! And as a bonus, no sewing required
ReplyDeleteBrenda Stenger
I like the shawl pin.
ReplyDeleteI would go for the shawl pin. The other closures are awesome though!
ReplyDeleteBonjour Laura,
ReplyDeleteI prefer the shawl pin.
Bravo for your design about this cardigan.
Elisabeth (=saintchristophe on Rav)
Shawl pin! Although all are super cute, that one is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteLucy21780 on rav.
Nothing else but the shawl pin!
ReplyDeleteRav-ID: Sysy303
I like the leather latches.
ReplyDeletedocjulie
I like the shawl pin best, but if the gate hinge closure was a more coordinating color, I think I would really like it as well.
ReplyDeleteI really like the shawl pin the best. Just sayin'.

ReplyDeleteknittingdancer on Ravelry
I like the leather it gives a nice look.
ReplyDeleteI like the shawl pin
ReplyDeleteI don't usually go for shawl pins but o really like how it looks with this jacket. And I adore the yarn color choice.
ReplyDeleteawesome choices! but I would go with Classic Waves Shawl Pin
ReplyDeleteI like the shawl pin but think the leather ones (first photo) would be more versatile.
ReplyDeleteKnit across the table from you at the retreat today. I am pretty traditional, so I really like the shawl pin. I am looking forward to the pattern, and trying this sweater. Enjoyed hearing your presentation today, and talking to you!
ReplyDeleteI think the shawl pin just edges out the leather "bow" in the middle, but it's a close second! Depends on if you want a bit of a non-traditional look!
ReplyDeleteI think the shawl pin is most flattering because it pulls the sweater in at the waist and makes the sweater more fitted. However, I love the uniqueness of the leather bow, and would vote for that closure if it could be attached in a way to create the same shaping effect as the shawl pin.
ReplyDeleteClassic shawl pin for me too, but I do think the leather latches are interesting and a little different. Sorry, not a fan of the bow.
ReplyDeleteThe jacket looks very cozy. I like the shawl pin best. Mamamustknit on Ravelry.
ReplyDeleteThe shawl pin is the best. Piwang on Ravelry.
ReplyDeleteLove the shawl pin. CLTitus on ravelry
ReplyDeleteAll lovely but I prefer the shawl pin because it doesn't compete with your lovely design. (dena on rav)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sneak peek!!! What a great sweater (perfect to keep you warm in the winter) and I imagine a very fun knit. Can't wait to start one.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the shawl pin, Classic Waves for sure!! Especially because you can wear it off to the side like you did yesterday and it looked like a design element.
What fun! The gate hinge I think is my preference
ReplyDeleteShawl pin is the best
ReplyDeleteLove the sweater ~ warm & cozy for all this snow! Shawl pin for sure!
ReplyDeleteThe shawl pin looks best to me. Cute sweater!

ReplyDeleteLove the sweater! I like the leather latches best.
ReplyDeleteRav ID Bmaldonado
I love the sweater. My choice is the shawl pin.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the shawl pin. Chellemay on ravelry
ReplyDeleteMy preferences would be the gate hinge in a slightly smaller version and a natural or dark leather finish. My second choice would be the shawl pin. My Rav ID is stitchalong.
ReplyDeleteAdd my vote for the shawl pin. I really like the sweater.
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm crazy for shawl pins, the leather latches really go best with the style of the sweater.
ReplyDeletePat Pinkowski
Gorgeous jacket! Leather latches I think. though I like how the shawl pin helps create just a little more shape. Can't wait to see the pattern and the yarn you used etc! HettiesMum
ReplyDeleteshawl pin looks awesome!!!!
