Picking Up Stitches: A Video Tutorial and Treatise

I've been getting questions about picking up stitches in Magia... which means it's the perfect time for a video tutorial on the subject!

I can't believe what an idiot I sound like in the last 10 seconds after finding all my words so well... apologies!  And also, it's gardening season, hence the lack of a manicure!

I also really love this article on Knitty if you want to do more reading on the subject!

  1. I do my pick up stitches like Stephen West does... much easier than a lot of other ways. Check it out!

    1. Is that the technique he shows here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cOdXveLGYI If so, that's the first one I show... if not, which one do you mean? I'd love to see

    2. Yes, Laura, that is it. It makes it so much easier than some other ways. I had given up on the tab cast on because of the way to do it. I saw his way on Craftsy and haven't looked back on casting on and getting the garter tab going.

    3. I just cast on all the stitches through both loops and, as you said, it looks fine. But I really like how you cast on through the back loops and will keep it in mind for the next time.

  2. Thanks for the video! You sound fine at the end.

  3. Wow, thanks! That is really interesting, I learned a lot on what happens when I pick up stitches in different ways. I usually prefer to do a slip-stitch edge and only use 1 loop for the pick-up - for socks, mainly, - as I like the nearly seamless look without any ridges.
