Calling all Craftsy Virgins (& Students Too)!!!

Y'all, Craftsy has laid down a really great promotion for National Craft Month and they are challenging their instructors to help them bring new students to site... problem is it is a tiny bit complicated and every time I tried to come up with a way to share it on social media I confused myself.
So... I'm just going to explain it here:
(once you read this you'll see why I decided to go for full transparency!)
  • Any student that purchases a class through an instructor link through 3/13 will be entered to win a $1,000 donation to a craft-focused charity of his/her choice!
  • I will receive $100 for every 5 new buyers I send to Craftsy during the promotion
  • Every instructor who drives 1+ new buyer during the promotion will be entered for a chance to win one of ten $1,000 bonuses
  • The instructor to drive the most new buyers during the promotion will receive $5,000
  • If at least 50% of instructors drive at least 1 new buyer during the promotion, Craftsy will double their charitable donation to $2,000
  • AND HERE IS WHAT I AM GOING TO DO.... if I happen to win any money through this promotion I am going to donate all of it to a craft-focused charity of your choice (I'll randomly select a person from the comments below to choose the charity)
I'm going start by giving you a few discount links for some awesome Craftsy classes I think we should all take! And I'm going to ask you to share these links with your friends... those are the people who have probably never taken a Craftsy class before. And it is the Craftsy virgins we want and will help us win! Studies show that once someone takes a class and understands just how effective they are they will come back for more. The Craftsy platform really is a fabulous way to learn and Craftsy will refund you in full if you don't enjoy the class.

Every day during the next 2 weeks (the promotion is up on March 13th) I'm going to share another discount link with you (I'll post it in the list below) but I need to know from you which classes you want to take so I can give you the links you want! I'm starting off with classes for the first 3 days of March, these are all classes I am obsessed with taking this month!

Here is a link to get 50% off all FIVE of my Craftsy classes.

So, y'all... what Craftsy classes do you want discount codes for? There are over 1,000 to choose from! Now's your chance to ask! Leave a comment below as this is how you enter yourself to decide where my prize money goes should I win!

(To keep things fair, once this promotion is over I will have to take down this post... these discount links won't be here forever, get them while you can!)

  1. This is confusing. So the key is that whatever class they buy, they have to use one of your links to arrive to the Craftsy site?

Also the link to get 50% off of all of your classes doesn't have 50% off of the Mastering Lace Shawls class.

    1. I agree! Yes, that is pretty much it! As long as someone goes in through one of my links then they will be "counted" in my contribution towards the promotion.

And thanks for the heads up on Mastering Lace Shawls, I've asked Craftsy to correct that!

So, is there any class you are interested in taking that you haven't checked out yet?

    2. Donna Druchunas Fair Isle and the Stashbusting classes are on my wish list.
Classes that I think would be good for you to highlight are the Multicolor Yarns with Jill Draper or maybe Knit Lab and Knit Lab in the Round if we want to get Craftsy newbies interested.

    3. I second the Multicolor Yarns with Jill Draper idea.

    1. Nope... you don't have to be a Craftsy virgin to participate, BUT, if you know someone who has never taken a class with Craftsy you could share one of my links with them ; )!

  3. How to say it...Pattern Writing for Knitters. I think I've already taken most of your classes. lol.

I have to say, I would really LOVE to understand the "Comment as:" Pull down menu. None of it works or makes sense to me other than the Google Account and Live Journal, neither of which I have.

    1. Weird, I have a few different options when I pull down Comment as including Name/url and Anonymous... what browser are you using?

I LOVE Pattern Writing for Knitters... that is a great idea for tomorrow's discount link! Thanks!

    2. I'm using Firefox. There are several other options and they make no sense to me. "WordPress, TypePad, AIM, OpenID, Name/URL, and Anonymous".

  4. Natural Light Portraits! And I just bought the only class of yours that I hadn't yet taken -- Lace from the Inside Out. I was waiting until I was a better lace knitter but the price was too good to pass up. I can always watch it later when I really AM a better lace knitter. Just one of the many reasons I love Craftsy!

  5. I'd love the Clara Parkes Wool class if possible as you keep on speaking highly of it.

  6. I would love Start Wire Weaving: Cabochon Pendants by Dawn Horner

  7. Machine knitting, or any of the Double Knitting classes. Pretty much any of the sewing classes that teach you how to make a Sloper, Weaving.... There are too many to choose.

  8. Laura,

I forwarded your email to my fave charity group, Yarns of Hope. Hopefully help you get some prizes to give back as it were.

  9. I just took "Improve your Knitting" with Patty Lyons" it's a really great class for any level knitter. She's a great teacher and the class covers many styles of knitting. I was finally able to learn continental knitting and how to combine English and contnental for stranded knitting. But she covers so much more.

I agree. I have the class, also gave it to a friend who was having problems. She loves it too. There is a way to give a class as a gift on the site - easy peasy for any class.

One day I might try the Portuguese knitting included in the class. Not sure if I will ever try knitting from back to front.

Learning how to make every stitch the same size every time is worth the price!

  10. Thanks - I've done my share to add to your total!

  11. The portugeese knitting class intrigues me. I have been told it somehow makes purling easier...

  12. Since so many of your Ravelry group are going to Iceland with you how about Ragga Top Down Icelandic Sweater?

  13. Button Bands and Buttonholes with Anne Hanson would be awesome.

  14. So, although the idea is to pick classes other than knitting to expand our horizons I'd like Bavarian Twisted stitches: Projects and techniques. At least it is different technique :-). Outside of the knitting arena I'd like a link to Drawing Wild Animals with Sharlene Wood. I have tried to get a few friends to take Craftsy classes in the past (I was given a free class link to give to 3 people from Craftsy and they still didn't sign up for one) but I will try again to get some of them to join in.

  15. Knitting on the Bias sounds interesting. Or perhaps a yummy cooking class that you've tried or have wanted to try. There's too many for me to choose just one.

    1. I have that Knitting on Bias class. It is good. For cooking I have a class called On the Rise that is about making rolls and I haven't watched the whole thing (or made any rolls yet) but I really like it.

    2. 2 GREAT classes are:
      1) Improve Your Knitting: Alternative Methods & Styles with Patty Lyons...
      2) Knit Faster with Portuguese Knitting with Andrea Wong

Both classes are skill building and full of wonderful techniques and advice!!!
