Starting 2012 with a BANG! (and a giveaway!)
In years past I have done a recap of my year in knitting and this year I sat down to start that list once or twice and got TOTALLY overwhelmed. TONS got done in 2011, and the number of projects that are already in the works for 2012 is too exciting... SO, I am not doing a recap but a look ahead and I've decided to do that with a GIVEAWAY and a little peek into a few things I am thinking about "attacking" this year!
- For one, I've signed up for this Craftsy course... it's free and I'm thinking I can handle making one quilt square a month... by the end of the year that means I'll have a quilt, right? I know how to sew, but I've never quilted more than a super simple top, so it should be a great skill builder! And, if I'm a good blogger it means I'll have a square a month to show you too, right?
- Another thing is that I'm going to Vinyasa Yoga TWICE a week, instead of once. If I write it on my blog then it must be true! Let's just see how long I can keep it up... I already made it once this week!
- I've already cast on for a sweater for me, I need to add another one to my arsenal... I'm making SkyIsle in Donegal Tweed, but as a pullover not a cardigan. It is going to be SUPER wearable. It's been all lace all the time over here and I needed some stockinette stitch to start the year off right!
- Professionally there are a few VERY exciting things in the works, but they are all too new to divulge yet, so you'll just have to be patient... what a tease, I know!
Giveaway: 1 skein Sweet Georgia Tough Love Sock in English Ivy & 100 grams Matsuno Size 8 beads |
Wow, what a beautiful way to start the New Year! This year, I have many knitting goals--I'd like to do more work with beads (so this prize would be very relevant!), more intarsia, learn entrelac, perfect the wrap cast-on so that I can make hats from the top-down as well as bottom-up, and find time to balance my full-time job, knitting hobby (knits for myself and my family), and very fledgling knitting business/Etsy shop with college-themed hats. Whew!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes please! That's such a gorgeous shade of green :)
ReplyDeleteThis year I'm planning to live in a more organized, purposeful fashion. I'm tired of chasing emergencies that don't need to exist.
Wow, lovely yarn and beads! I had so much fun with Ennoble, this would be fantastic!
ReplyDeleteGreat way to start 2012! I have so many exciting things lined up this year, namely taking my knitting business to new levels! A few of my incoming projects, like yours, are too new to divulge, but I did just release a new pattern today so I'm on the right track!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for more knitting in 2012. Got sidelined by an injury in 2011 and got less than half my usual knitting in. Looking at the possibility of surgery on my shoulder in a couple of months, but doc says I can still knit during recovery. Yay!
ReplyDeleteWill finally knit some socks~on dpns! :) Am in your lace workshop and working on the edging of skywalker :). Your really an AWESOME teacher :) thanks,
ReplyDeletecrystal
Thanks for some excitement as we begin the New Year! I hope to knit a lot from my stash this year, and to curb my yarn purchases. I know I say that every year, but with hubby retiring in April, I really need to be a little more careful with the spending. So, stashbusting it is!
ReplyDeleteI want to knit more in 2012 than I did in 2011 and that was more than usual for me. I think I tend to knit more when I have goals to complete so I did several KAL in 2011, therefore I will continue that in 2012. This yarn and beads would go far to get my 2012 goals planted in the right directions.
ReplyDeleteLovely yarn and beads. Would really like to knit with them.
ReplyDeleteWhat am I hoping to accomplish in 2012? I'm hoping to win that gorgeous green yarn! Seriously, I'm hoping to spend more time actually knitting and less time surfing Ravelry and knitting blogs.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful yarn and beads! I'm hoping to complete my first pair of patterned socks, and also to do my first fair isle!
ReplyDeleteKnitting goals for this year are fairly simple, learn two or three new techniques, and knit more FO's than I did in 2011. I would also like to do a better job of finding time for myself. Take a real vacation, don't just go visit family. Lastly breastfeed my son as long as I did for my daughter. (the challenge with the last one is she is 20 months old and will make it difficult)
ReplyDeleteOh, the yarn and the beads are beautiful! I can't resist anything green...
ReplyDeleteThis year, I hope to re-energize my knitting/crocheting group at work with a new project/skill for them. Maybe I should include beads -- I never considered that before.
For myself -- I've knit top down pullovers in the round -- I want to complete a cardigan with set in sleeves (scary for me!)
I also want to be better at finishing projects -- I hate finishing so I have several projects that are knit but not finished. So, I'm going to finish those up and not let myself do that with anymore projects :)
Gorgeous yarn and beads!
ReplyDeleteI've got a few goals this year... Learn or try one new thing every month, knit one pair of socks every month, knit 2 sweaters (big challenge, since the only 2 I've ever knit took years!) I try to push myself to finish things I start in a timely manner, since I don't seem to have any trouble taking on new techniques.
Beautiful Green! Can't wait to start the KAL- my first one! excited - Happy New Year!
ReplyDeletehum, I admire your Yoga resolution, I really should do something in that line, but for the moment my 2012 goals are very sedentary : knitting, learning more knitting, discovering more gorgeous yarns that, until a few month ago, I never suspected existed. I have already learned so much in the past couple of months, for 2012 I plan to learn something new in every project : knitting with pre-strung beads (with KINETIK), Intarsia and Fair isle, and things I don't even know about yet
ReplyDeleteooo that's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAside from the usual things (which mostly in essence add up to being a better grownup) I am also giving myself a different craft challenge each week, so I'll learn new things and finish projects on my ever growing queue. I'm also planning on blogging about the challenges and tutorials/resources I find each week to help me complete them.
These beads are just beautiful!!! As I am total greenie I am really thrilled.
ReplyDeleteGoals for this year? Oh, perhaps too much: to end things before starting new ones (not only referring to knitting!), loosing weight by starting sport lessons again, trying not to live in the future but in the present, becoming more patient, learning to say "no"...
It isn't easy being green…but I try. I am here in my grey/green house w/dk green trim & shades of green interior, planning to be a better green citizen this year. I started by recycling 2 bags of yarn to local charity knitters and beginning a Butin necklace in greens to prepare for Kinetik. No, it ain't easy being green, but I balance with lots of joyful complimentary color. And, plan to do more of that this year along with yoga & walking. Thank you for the KAL and generous spirit!
ReplyDeleteI am going to be a selfish knitter this year. This is the year of ME for a change!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors & great resolutions Laura! My big goal for this year is to start blogging (and then the hard part which is to keep doing it regularly!). Thanks for the giveaway & happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait until January 13. This year I intend to learn to read charts by doing a Block of the Month at my LYS. I also would like to try my hand at dyeing!
ReplyDeleteI want to knit up some of the beautiful yarns in my stash. However I will still buy more beautiful yarn!
ReplyDeleteI already have my yarn and beads for the Mystery KAL but nobody says you can't knit two!
ReplyDeleteBaby baby baby, with grand baby #4 due in June I have lots of baby knitting to do. Plus since losing over 50 lbs last year I need to knit a sweater for me that actually fits.
ReplyDeleteI want to run more days a week and knit more yarn than I buy! Thanks for the opportunity to win this wonderful prize!
ReplyDeleteMy goals for 2012 are to knit two or three sweaters and finish this KAL and the Thin Ice KAL.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful yarn! For 2012 I am trying to simplify my life and utilize the craft supplies/yarn in my stash faster than I add to my stash!
ReplyDeleteThis year will be a big year for us! We are starting homeschooling with our oldest daughter--in between, I really hope to keep up the knitting! I also signed up for the Craftsy Block of the Month Club--hoping to do it as a homeschool project with my daughter--fun for both of us!!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Thank you for the giveaway drawing. This year I plan to make better use of my Ravelry library to search for patterns I already have. I've already logged in all my books and magazines, and queued my single patterns. Organizing my stash is next on my list. I will alternate projects using new yarn purchases with projects using stash yarn to work through my stash without feeling deprived of new irresistable yarn.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year - love the yarn and beads you chose! I have 3 ufos that must be finished before I can participate in your kal! My way to force them to be finished!
ReplyDeleteLast year was an incredible year for me. I don't know how I can top it. The highlights: I was reunited with my husband after his 17-month long deployment, I learned to get over my paralyzing fear of the water and learned to swim, I ran three half marathons and completed two triathlons, and I moved across the country to California. I'm looking forward to enjoying each day this year and making the most of each of them.

ReplyDeleteI love the green! I wasn't going to do another beaded KAL, but I just may have to now-I suppose it will go on my list of things to do this year.
ReplyDeleteOther things I would like to accomplish this year would be to run a 5k, knit a sweater from my own handspun, and finally finish my KAL from last year!
This year I would like to finish up the projects that I started last year, and make room for some new projects to be started without feeling guilty!
ReplyDeleteOoohhhh what a beautiful color and gorgeous beads to go with it! Yum! That would be a great way to start the new year. I'm signed up for your mystery KAL, and am excited for it to start! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteClaudia Wood
Stashdown, stashdown, stashdown! I need to reign in my stash and I am planning some charity knitting to get it done!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! I signed up for the same Craftsy course in December. I like the sampler concept. The yarn and beads are gorgeous, so pick me! Thank you for the great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI want to get fit for 2012!
ReplyDeleteBellyLaugher on Rav
hoping to accomplish, hmmm.... I promised the kids I would bake every week so they'd have homemade treats in their lunches every day. I did this one whole school year a couple of years ago and I only missed a couple of weeks. Work was crazy in the fall but will be lighter in the spring and I am looking forward to fulfilling this commitment.
ReplyDeleteHappy new year Laura. I am also looking at the BOM at Craftsy - I was a quilter (and still am) before I became a knitter and would love to see your quilt when you finish it. The yarn looks lovely and I can't wait for the start of the KAL - it is the first one I have ever donw and as a complete control freak am excited but just a little anxious about it - a good thing to try at the begining of the new year. C
ReplyDeleteLovely yarn and beads! I hope to finish the WIPS I entered 2012 with this year. Some will be easy, some will be not so easy, but finishing them all will be very rewarding.
ReplyDeleteThat yarn looks delicious!! This year I hope to knit myself a sweater and maybe try some lace :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous yarn! I'm hoping to knit go through my stash yarn before buying more.
ReplyDeleteThis year I plan to take my first ever course at WEBS, and to tackle colorwork, probably in the form of stockings for my two children. I figure if I start now, the stockings will be done by next Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI hoping to finish my knitted blanket this year so I can get some use out of it! Thanks for the giveaway :)
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to finish some of my many UFOs -- preferably without adding too many more!
ReplyDeleteThere are oh-so-many things that I hope to accomplish this year, but the one I want to state out loud to fellow fiber enthusiasts (as you all know what a job this means) is that I WILL re-organize my yarn stash--photographing and posting all yarn on Ravelry, and removing all random yarn that is stashed in various project bags behind my easy chair in the living room--I probably have more than a year's worth of knitting hanging out back there!
ReplyDeleteI would like to knit at least two sweaters.
ReplyDeleteI hope to accomplish knitting wise, is to try and finish my UfO's. I got so many! Debbie H
ReplyDeleteWhere do I begin? I need to finish a lace shawl and pink socks and four webbed scarves. But I could be swayed to start a new project with pretty green yarn and beads!
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of big things (hopefully) happening this year- so my goal is to accept changes (or no changes) gracefully and with the most preparation I can muster. This will inherently involve much knitting to retain sanity.
ReplyDeleteI have two new year's resolutions -- one is to incorporate more preferments into my breadbaking, the other is to start learning how to sew coats and jackets and other tailored structured things with layers of architecture inside them. Selfish on both counts! But I'd like to spend the year feeling well-fed and well-dressed.
ReplyDeleteLovely yarn indeed - Sweet Georgia is my fave! I'm facing some frightening and monumental life changes this year, so my main goal is to survive them, but I'm also working on 12 in 2012 and trying to use my stash for most of it. And I'm trying to do more art - currently working on Lino cuts and painting.
ReplyDeleteGreen is the color of hope so what a wonderful (hopeful) way to begin the year. My local yarn shop, Yarn Cupboard in Jamesville, NY, is having a KAL that culminates on St. Patrick's Day - hence there is a category for items knit in green.
ReplyDeleteMy focus this year is balance ... specifically balancing the amount of time I spend knitting with spending more time in meaningful movement (aka exercise).
Please add my name to the list for this drawing - I am thinking green (therefore hopeful) thoughts that I will be the lucky winner.
That yarn an bead combo is so beautiful! My goal #1 for 2012 -- finish seaming my Caftan Pullover KAL project from last year. Yes, it has been sitting in a bag just begging me to complete... Second goal is to become more proficient at bead knitting. That goal may become a reality sooner than later. So anxious for KAL to begin.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful green! This year is a sweater year for me- and only sweaters for me, me, me!
ReplyDeleteOh that yarn looks so yummy I want to reach in and fondle it. For this new year my goals are to sell my house and downsize to an apartment,(my twins are graduating college so I won't need such a big place) knit a sweater for each of my 3 DD and myself (did 3 for one DD this past year and one for my oldest), and finish at least 3 of my quilting UFOs. Do at least 3 KALs in knitting starting with yours.
ReplyDeleteOoh I would love to win the yarn and beads-the colors are right up my alley. As with every year, I would love to have more completed knitting projects.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to knit more sweaters this year!
ReplyDeleteI am going to try to finish up some of my WIPS...I got a bit of startitis last year, and now I've got to finish up some of the sweaters I started!
ReplyDeletePlus I love SkyIsle..it's on my to do list at some point! And that yarn and those beads are scrumptious!
Oh and I'm mikki522 on Ravelry
knittingt-rex on rav, knittingtrex on twitter.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest hope is to be in a better, happier place this time next year.
and knit a half-marathon's worth of yarn (13.1 miles).
What a fantastic way to start off the year! And I love knitting with beads....
ReplyDeleteLast year was a rough year, I'm hoping that this year will be less drama and more joy, and time for lots more knitting!
Every eyar for the last 3 there's been something that's prevented me from knitting for long periods, so my hope for 2012 is to finish all the WIPS that are still around. That may not sound like much but I just counted and there are ver 50 of them! Of course, I'd love to add yours as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThis is the year I intend knitting for me again.
This year I hope to knit my first pair of socks, my first real lace shawl, finish some WIPs and do some stash busting. It's a clean house kind of year, I think!!
ReplyDeleteLovely shade of green! This year I hope to use up some of the yarn stash, become a better spinner and weaver and learn how to make bobbin lace.
ReplyDeleteI've resolved that this will be the year of the FO! I have so many WIPs -- I need to finish them and feel good about them, or frog them and start something new. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteOrganize my stash so my husband will sleep in the bedroom again! And finish my Norah Gaughan Kimono!
ReplyDeleteI want to be on my iPad less and knit more.
ReplyDeleteWow. You are very organized. I was excited to finish my first sweater of 2012 while getting over the flu. I have made no plans beyond that. I would love to win you prize!
ReplyDeleteknitterlydeisgns on Ravelry
I still haven't fully finalized my goals for 2012, but a few of them: knits for the impending baby, organize yarn room, learn to weave with my new loom!
ReplyDeleteThis year, I am hoping to learn more about beaded knitting (I've been planning to do the KAL!), and I'm hoping to complete more knit garments that I'll actually want to wear, like sweaters and vests. :)
ReplyDeleteWow - big question. First I would like to finish my doctorate if it is possible (long story) , would like to make it to New York this summer to visit my husband's relatives, and high on my knitting list is to make my first sweater/cardigan, and to maybe knit a few gifts.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this next KAL.
In 2012 I plan to get at least 4 pairs of socks, 2 fingerless mitts and a cowl.
ReplyDeleteThis year I am going to try to make more time for knitting. I plan on making a sweater for me. I love knitting with beads. I can't wait to start this mystery KAL.
ReplyDeleteI want to make mittens, a cowl, a lace shawl( have never succeed at yet), plus spin about a pound of various fibers I have stashed about on my drop spindles.
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to take a good run at the WIP pile and either frog or finish everything in it. And I'm definitely going to make this the year of lace! which Is how I found you, but signing up for the craftsy course! I want to make at least three shawls this year.
ReplyDeleteMy plan for the year is to make more mistakes "Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something." ~ Neil Gaiman
ReplyDeleteI want to dive in and try new things... new knitting techniques, new foods, new music styles, new adventures...
I hope to Knit a lot of my "precious" yarn this year. In the past I have tended to knit with the yarn I didn't care as much for and save the good stuff but I have decided that is just silly. This year is my year for knitting the good stuff.
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE that yarn and those beads!! Knitting with beads is on my list of things to try this year. Starting back to yoga next week myself... and walking! Oh, I've been such a slacker. =/ Also taking a watercolor workshop the end of this month to get myself back on the creative path! Thank you so much for the chance at this gorgeous yarn!!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to cut back on spending this year, maybe pad the savings account a bit. Winning yarn would be a big help ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful yarn
ReplyDeleteThis year I hope to make sure that I do not put myself at the bottom of the list and put everyone else's needs before mine. I have to make sure that I am taken care of as well.
I have been so good! I hardly have any UFO's! In the New year, I plan to be as creative as possible with my knitting. I love the start of a new year.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! My main goal for 2012 is to finish the coursework portion of my doctorate degree. That's a big one, so for knitting goals, I'm just trying to make time for knitting every day, even if it is just one row.
ReplyDeleteI have so much going in on 2012! My husband and I are moving back to the States after a couple years in Germany so I get my stateside stash back! I've been looking over patterns for it the entire time I've been here so everything's all matched up and ready to go. Once I'm done I can start on my other two goals of attempting Fair Isle and beaded knitting for the first time. ^_^
ReplyDeleteP.S. My captcha is "prost" which is what we say at our local pub when we want to toast something lol
I hope to have more needles in my cases because I have finished all my UFOs! That will be a big accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteWhat do I want to accomplish this year? Knitting-wise, I'd like to crank out some more sweaters. My shawl and hat baskets by the front door are overflowing. Also, I need to incorporate some structured exercise in my schedule... starting with perhaps one yoga class a week on top of walking/running/biking/kayaking I already enjoy and should do more of. So, let's get on with it! And thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI hope to accomplish more time for crafting as well as yoga. Of course that means I need to be a more efficient teacher and I have been improving. Here's to the continued growth. Love the yarn and beads too!
ReplyDeleteOMG! That's the color and yarn I was going to get for the KAL! Incredible! My goals this year are to continue working on my lace knitting skills as I finish the Clarus shawl and look for other patterns to challenge myself. I also plan to learn sock knitting. I hear so much about them, I just have to try them out. After this KAL, I want to find other projects in which I can use beads. I love exploring new things, which is why I think I have come so far in knitting in such a short time. Looking forward to new projects, new yarns, new techniques in the new year!
ReplyDeleteI've never made a sweater; I hope 2012 is my year for that!
ReplyDeleteurchiken at gmail dot com
The yarn is beautiful and will be so fun to work with on the kal! I have at least 10 project bags set up with yarn and pattern set up already for this year. There are scarves shawls and a sweater. I would love to take an intarsia class and also learn to spin. I am going to try my best to get it all done!
ReplyDeleteThis year is starting with a new job, new apartment and new town. Craziness! But even though there are still boxes everywhere, I would love a new project to soothe me in the evening.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous yarn! It puts the one I was planning on using to shame. This year, my big thing on my to-do list is complete 5 months of Turbofire, which is a workout program from Beachbody, and keep my diet cleaner than it has been. I also am hoping to take the next step with my French class and go twice a week instead of one, so I can learn more at a quicker rate. I'm also hoping that my brain will retain all that too. And lastly, I have a some knitting projects that I've put off over the years that I just need the time to sit down and do. So, I'm hoping the new year will allow me to finish these. All the best for 2012!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is getting married in the fall to a wonderful man. So I am on a quest to lose 50 pounds to feel & look great. This is my year of the shawl. I had to put down Skywalker in my Craftsy course because of the holiday commotion. But I want to return to it & work on this KAL, too. Next year, when I can wear a smaller size, will be my year of the sweater. I've never knit a sweater because of the tremendous size I would have to knit. I'm really positive now & looking forward to the year Twenty-Dozen!
ReplyDeletewell, I got a blog for Christmas, so the hope is I do not fall down on the expectations. and I have to knit more Ribbands because they were all gobbled up and now I have none to donate to Knit Michigan. Love you stuff.... so pick me please
ReplyDeleteI plan to try different projects including socks, shawls, sweaters, and lace, start spinning, attend a fiber or knitting event, and get my knitting/ spinning blog rolling (www.tinygeekcrafter.com) and pick up followers. I'm looking forward to the KAL starting this month!
ReplyDeleteLike everyone says, what a beautiful shade of green yarn.
ReplyDeleteI am a new fan who learned about you from the Knitting Contessa's Christmas. Where have I been??
I hope in 2012 to work on projects that I really want to knit and have fun. If it is not looking like something I want, I will give myself permission to stop and start something else.
Francis
Funny - I have the same yoga resolution this year! As for knitting, I would like to knit down some of my stash and maybe even open an etsy shop to sell small finished objects. We'll see!
ReplyDeleteOne of my knitting goals for the year is to check my stash before buying yarn for a project. A general goal is to eat more local produce, and I've joined two CSAs toward that end. More yoga is always good.
ReplyDeleteBonjour,
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year for you, Laura, you are so 1000things-involved !
In 2012, I would try jacquard (several colors standed knit), and understand the way of knitting the estonian shawls (square) because I have already understood the triangular one.
Meilleurs voeux !
Elisabeth.
Wow Laura!!! How awesome! One of my goals is to not feed my yarn addiction until I have knit at least halfway through my stash, but couldn't resist the free offer! :) Currenlty finishing Skywalker and will tackle Clarus next. I want to learn to knit more types of lace shawls and finish all projects on list. I am enjoying your Craftsy class and learning a lot. You are an awesome teacher! Best wishes for 2012! Pam
ReplyDeleteWow, spectacular yarn and beads. One thing I'd like to learn this year is adding beads to my lace knitting, a technique I've been thinking I need to learn!
ReplyDeleteNot to jump on the bandwagon but I too will be doing a quilt square a month. I've got a massive shawl(1800 yards) on the radar and finally, I intend to sew a dress by the end of the year. Right now this.seems perfectly possible but check in midyear and see where I am.
ReplyDeleteTamara
totally lovely! im hoping to stashbust in the new year so i can make room for some new yarn :) raineoc@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteWow, I'm, uh, green with envy about that yarn! I have all sorts of goals (call it a wish list!) for the new year. I was in Scotland last year and bought some wonderful wool that needs to become a sweater. I want to learn to spin and my parents gave me the old spinning wheel in their house. They assure me that it works; I'm a bit skeptical so one of my goals is to get the wheel into working order. I have two (or is that 3 or 4!) shawl either on the needles or scheduled to start. Love, love, love cushy lace around my shoulders! It should be a busy year.
ReplyDeleteVery nice green. Great start to a new year! I still have to watch your course on Craftsy - maybe next week once the kids are all in school!
ReplyDeleteOh boy! I have a lot of goals for this year. I hope to:
ReplyDelete--knit more than 2011
-- find a neurosurgeon to FIX my back once and for all
-- get moving more, but gently
-- use what I've got (yarn, fabric & paper stash)
-- get out more-knit night, etc.
-- schedule date nights with hubby
I think these are all do-able, as well as enjoyable goals. Nothing too difficult at all.
Thanks Laura!!!
Betsy Pratt
Pretty yarn and beads! I just did my first beaded scarf a few months ago. In 2012 I plan to knit more for myself. I already have a wonderful lap blanket in progress. And also, like you, I'm going to try to go to yoga 2x per week. We shall see!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty colors to brighten someone's new year. My new years hopes? To be able to walk without pain nor using the walker. Being able to take a deep breath without ribs hurting. Forgiveness - sorry can't. No compassion for the jerk who was going way over the 25 mph limit (in front of an elementary school no less) and going right thru the stop sign without even slowing down. Texting? Talking on his phone? Nothing is more important than paying attention to the rules of the road. Through no fault of my own my car is totaled, the medical bills are starting to come in and I'm just keeping my fingers crossed disability starts real soon. Happy freaking new year.
ReplyDeleteIn general I hope to accomplish better health by continuing my daily exercise routine. I also hope to get my home a little more organizing through daily 5 minute tidy-up sessions.
ReplyDeleteAs for crafting (the fun part). My crafting goals for this year are to learn Tunisian crochet and knit a sock from the toe-up.
I have an overly ambitious plan to give afghans for Christmas in 2012, so that might take up all my crafting ambition for the year.
ReplyDeleteI'm also starting a new job in Feb, so I guess my goal will be to not do a crappy job at that. Don't want to set the bar too high. ;)
I posted this earlier on Google+ but this is my goal list for just right now. Not to mention the other 17 things queued in Ravelry:
ReplyDeleteWell I am on my way. I have started the first big chunk of my Ravelry queue:
1. Clapotis for me,
2. Tree of Light shawl,
3. Korknisser (my new addiction)
4. Vic's slippers (the Opa Slippers in my queue)
5. left over cotton scarf for Vic (started in 2011)
6. Catherine's Wheel blanket
7. my "Jacket" which is actually going to be the next "large" project I complete.
8. a Tri-Shawl that's been hanging around that's nearly done I just need to finish the damn thing
9. I die. seriously. these are all projects that are STARTED and either on the needles or in a bag with yarn and pattern and hook for completion.
Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI am a knitter and I want to accomplish....
a crocheted hat.
Those sound like great goals for the year! And such beautiful yarn too.
ReplyDeleteThis year I want to try and knit at least 6 projects from books I own. (I bought them for a reason after all!) I also want to finish up one old WIP a month. Fingers crossed!
What to accomplish in 2012? Great question. Let's see: I will be 65 this year, I will become a grandma for the very first time, I will be knitting every day, I hope to have 26 pairs of socks for holiday giving at the end of this year, I hope to be the best grandma a little person ever had (like my Gram was for me) and I hope to teach one young person how to knit this year. And so much more.
ReplyDeleteI am going to learn how to knit with beads (thank you, Laura!), but I think my biggest challenge will be to wrap up several of my UFO's this year, and to be diligent about working through my stash... no, really!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to learning something new and have a beatiful porject to boot.
ReplyDeleteDevelop patience to knit straight stockinette. (As well as the perennial hope to declutter the house!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous offer, Laura! I'm psyched for the KAL; now I just need to "land" on a yarn/bead combo!
ReplyDeleteYour plans for the new year sound ambitious and I have confidence that you will accomplish all you set out to do and more.
I'm heading over now to check out the quilt club. I am easily enabled. ;)
I forgot to leave a link! And I am so green with hope. "It isn't easy being green…but I try. Thank you for the KAL and generous spirit!"
ReplyDeleteLovely green! This year I want to expand my horizons a bit by trying new knitting techniques, like knitting socks from the toe up instead of my usual, safe top down.
ReplyDeleteI want to learn how to knit lace this year, and to teach a friend to knit!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Laura! Now I'm contemplating the quilt classes! I have long wanted to learn to quilt. Otherwise, in 2012, I hope to grow my business (a law firm started in September), get back into shape, and knit a lace project with lace weight yarn (something that has lead to nothing but frustration for me in the past!)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for the Kinetik KAL to begin. Yarn and beads are ready and waiting. But I would sure love to switch them out for the gorgeous green prize! :-)
I have so many goals this year. First on my list is to get our new house painted and repaired so we can move in and get our old house on the market. Decluttering for the move is the next HUGE project as we are losing basement storage space and 1000 sq ft! But it will all be worth it. And of course, I can not forget about all the knitting and crochet goals I have. So many projects, so little time!
ReplyDeleteOoh...green is my lucky color and I could use some luck this year! My goals this year are a bit on the selfish side as I've had to neglect myself this past year. We discovered my husband has prostate cancer so alot of time was spent in hospital and Dr.s offices. I got a bit of Christmas knitting done but nothing that needed alot of concentration. I did learn to knit lace from your Craftsy class this year so now I'm looking forward to learning to use beads. Your items are so pretty, I have lots of inspiration to turn to!
ReplyDeleteHave a great year!
I have promised myself to use the yarn in my stash before I purchase more....
ReplyDeleteI have good intentions, really.
Sweaters in colorwork, cables & lace. It is time to branch out a little and try bigger projects & new techniques!
ReplyDeletehis past year has been a disaster health wise for my whole family. This year I plan to slow down and not due as much. Visit people more to stay in touch, and unclutter my house(perhaps throw some things away or donate them).I also signed up for this KAL to meet new people and force me to work on my beaded projects.
ReplyDeleteLast year I knitted 11 pairs of socks. This year I'd like to knit 12 pairs! Then I would like to finish my cable sweater, two scarves, and a shawl I started over the past year. I think that will still give me enough leeway to knit other things as they peek my interest. I especially love mystery knitting!!
ReplyDeleteI have challenged myself to finish at least 5 of the UFO's I have laying around Before I buy any new yarn..... Oh boy, better get knitting!
ReplyDeleteI'm teh previous "anoymous" poster, hit the wrong button.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year~~! Im going to get started immediately on gifts for next years holiday.. Seems I try to knit everything in the two weeks before Christmas. Im also going to try and not be too hard on myself.. love myself more...Happy Knitting!!
ReplyDeleteSweet Georgia and your designs sound like a great combination, I'd love to get my hands on this!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year and a big thanks for this wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to get through my third year of nursing school without too much stress but with lots of success. That's my main goal, and everything else will fall into place, I am sure!
I promise to use the Zoomba game my kids got me for the Kinect and to knit more of course. Maybe somethings for me starting with the Kinetic KAL. Can't wait, I'm using Sweet Georgia too.
ReplyDeleteWow, I just can't get over the luscious green of that Sweet Georgia yarn, paired with those beautiful beads. Anything you make out of those would be beautiful! I've never done a mystery KAL before. It would be a delight to start with these!
ReplyDeleteYour color choices are simply gorgeous. I love the greens which seem to my current new additions. I haven't tried a KAL previously, so am excited to try one.
ReplyDeleteGoals for the year, continue to push my technique skills, do more charity knitting, teach more classes (I am teaching a class on Eventide starting this weekend), and begin designing.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful yarn! And the beads are gorgeous also. This year, I want to knit at least every other project with stash yarn - that means lots of socks in my future :)
ReplyDeleterenewedmind on ravelry
I agree, great yarn! My knitting goal this year is to try to knit for 15 minutes every day... not a long time... but some knitting every day... and two hours on one night does not count!
ReplyDeletenice yarn, & beads - great combination which I would love to work since I've done minimal bead work w/ my knitting.
ReplyDeleteKnitting goals - well, just keep on trying to go thru stash.
Organizing goals - I love puttering in my craft room getting it straightened up (at least to my eye) & need to do the same w/ attic & garage.
Im all excited I love knitting anything with beads and I've never done a KAL. This year I plan on reorganizing my fiber and sewing rooms.
ReplyDeleteI hope to expand my felting projects with the addition of beads and hand spun yarn accents.
ReplyDeleteGoals: 1.have something progressing on my needles from my stash all year long. (at the same time a new project is allowed on other needles). 2.join gym and exercise in the water there. 3.forgive completely and love freely.
ReplyDeleteMy new year's resolution is to finish what I start before starting another. But that is so hard when I see a new pattern or yarn or need a brain dead project when I'm someplace where I can't focus on a chart...you all been there. Just not enough hours in a day.
ReplyDeleteSo many things I want to accomplish, not the least of which is to catch up on my knitting! I have learned long ago not to feel guilty about unfinished or frogged projects, as it is about the process and not necessarily the product. So I will continue to cast on without reservation. Another goal is to do my yearly donation of my yarn stash to charity - that was supposed to happen this week but has not. And, I really like Laura's idea of starting yoga. I will add that to my list!
ReplyDeleteI really would like to improve my technique and gain more confidence.
ReplyDeleteI want to do everything!! But seriously, I would like to tackle learning to use my iPad for knitting! I also have 2 shawls to make for a wedding in March! I am looking forward whatever inspires me... the possibilities are endless...
ReplyDeleteAwesome yarns and patterns!
ReplyDeleteMy knitting goal for 2012 is to successfully complete the 12 shawls in 2012. I'm not big on finishing projects and this will be a major accomplishment for me. I'm super excited!
I want to get my basement organized and get my yarn out of bins and into something so I can see it better. Seems like SUCH a small thing to want, but OH MY is it a huge undertaking.
ReplyDelete2012 is the year I learn to knit socks and knit for myself which shouldn't be so hard but means I need to figure out what I want to wear. I want to balance this with yarn bombing something grand, silly and political.
ReplyDeleteThis year I would like to knit some hats - I bought some DK weight yarn and the Weekend Hats book. I would also like to knit a pair of socks for my husband - it just seems like so much knitting.
ReplyDeleteThis is the year of more for me: more yoga, more fruits and veggies, more running miles, more knitting from my stash.
ReplyDeleteThis is the year I knit a sweater. I haven't knit one in 30 years! I also would love to win that yarn - its beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSo many goals, and they all seem to be knitting-related! First I plan to overcome this anxiety I seem to have about sock knitting. I've knitted a couple of pairs successfully, but still I find it stressful! The Craftsy classes are great, so with Donna Druchunas's help, I'm getting over the fear of not understanding the construction of a sock and the options for toes and heels. I'd like to be able to knit them in public, easy-peasy, with no need to be glued to my computer for tutorials. :)
ReplyDeleteNext after that: I will master bust darts for sweaters!
knittingwithwords on Ravelry
First thing, I want to finish all my WIPs, knit down my stash, buy only for specific projects.
ReplyDeleteNext on my list is expanding my knitting repertoire by increasing my knowledge of fiber and adding new knitting techniques into my work.
Would love to win your giveaway for the kal.
btw, love your designs, Laura.
My goal this year is to finish or frog every current WIP (some of them have been on the needles since 2009, and I want those needles back!).
ReplyDeleteOf course, this doesn't mean I can't start new projects as well.
This year I want to knit myself a pair of socks! I also want to run a mile without stopping. I'm halfway there!
ReplyDeletethanks for the giveaway and the chance to win!
great color, Laura. I hope to learn to knit socks this year, and finish projects I start (quilts included!). Hope to see you at the knit shop this month!
ReplyDeleteThis year I'm workin towards losing the weight I gained during my last pregnancy With a wedding in the works, it would be nice to feel good as well as look good right? I also want to knit something for ME this year.
ReplyDeleteThis year I want to get my house clutter free/organized. Seems the more room you have, the more you accumulate. Want to get rid of most of it and get down to being able to find a knitting/quilting/scrapbooking project rather than having to fumble through piles of "stuff". If I get that done, I will have more time to actually enjoy my stashes in each of these areas. If I concentrate on only ne thing maybe it will be something I can accomplish.
ReplyDeleteJust signed up for your new Mystery KAL.....my very first KAL. I am most excited to get started and only hope that I will be able to keep up with all the clues. Thank you!
ReplyDeletemy New Year goals- less work and more fun, which means more knitting, more quilting, more horseback riding, more running. My friends say you already do a lot of those- everything except less work!
ReplyDeleteI am not as good with resolutions, so I don't plan any...can't break them that way. Love your new year resolutions and I hope you do the Yoga and Quilt to the max. I too am making the quilt and still plug away at other crafts. But would love to get a skein of this amazing yarn...love it. thanks for the offer! You are the best. See you in Carson, NV
ReplyDeleteI hope to make a knit toy for each of my girl's birthdays and one for each of them for Christmas. This is 4 knit toys, which is always my minimum goal for my sweeties! I also hope to be inspired by a pattern to knit something for myself this year. I love making wraps!
ReplyDeleteThis year I will knit only what makes me happy, dance in a flash mob and face a few fears with grace!
ReplyDeleteHello from Toronto! i just stumbled upon your blog and am so excited to find another source of inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI hope to accomplish 2 skills this year....1) to learn drop spindle spinning & 2) to learn to make lizard ridge squares.
I love the gorgeous wool in the giveaway! Being a redhead, I'm very partial to green
Cheers!
I would like to have finished one lace shawl in 2012. I showed my yarn to my sister and she jumped on some really nice hand painted yarn that would make a really awesome Skywalker Shawl :)
ReplyDeleteI've been a crocheter for years but I've only been a knitter since April 2011. I've resolved to do at least 2 KALs and 2 CALs this year. I've never done a KAL before and would love to try this one out. I'm also cooking my way through Anne Burrell's cookbook, "Cook like a Rockstar" ala Julie and Julia. I've never made any of the dishes in the book so it should be interesting! Basically this is the year of knowledge and trying new things and it's going to be a blast!
ReplyDeleteI usually don't make resolutions because they're too hard to keep. However, I'm really going to try to make a dent in the pile of UFO's. Maybe finish one thing for every one new cast on.....
ReplyDeleteOK, this is my third attempt at posting a comment. I'm such a doofus!
ReplyDeleteMy plan for this year is to get organized and get rid of "stuff". I have far too much quilting fabric in my stash ... couldn't use it all in 10 lifetimes. The yarn stash is not quite as bad but I know I have yarn that I will likely never use. All my excess "stuff" will be donated to people or organizations who can use it.
I also want to expand my knitting skills. One of the things I want to learn is how to use beads in knitting. And along came the Kinetic KAL! It was perfect timing. Can't wait to get started. :-)
I've got two resolutions. First, I want to complete the first level of TKGA's Master Knitters course. Second, I was given 2 big five-gallon pails of yarn, one cream worsted, the other tan and cream marled, both all wool; I want to make a sweater that fits for myself!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
ReplyDeleteMy goals for this year are to continue building up my running base so that I can do some long trail runs and races this summer and to finish knitting my boyfriend's sweater. I'm working on both a little bit every day :)
This year I hope to finish a scarf I have been working on far to long, finish knitting a blanket for my dad - yes the same one I have been working on for 2 years, and to keep making it into the pool 3 times a week, I would try for more but my knee demands at least a day of rest in between workouts.
ReplyDeleteOh in the year 2012 I would love to accomplish the art of taking care of myself first. Knitting helps!
ReplyDeleteHello Laura,
ReplyDeleteI'm taking your Craftsy course and hope I'm ready for this KAL. I'm very much enjoying your course and I've learned so much.
In this new year 2012, I am determined to learn how to incorporate beading into my knitting and crochet projects. I love your blog. I see a beaded shawl in my future.....
ReplyDeleteBest wishes in the New Year!
What a great giveaway! I've got my yarn and bead for the Kinetik and can't wait for January 13th. I love surprises and I've been wanting to learn how to bead. My plans for this year include working on my WIPs and using up some of my stash. I also want to (finally!) finish my application for TKGA's Level 1 Master Knitter's program. I'd also like to do some double-knitting and work on a couple of design ideas that have been floating around in my head for a while.
ReplyDeleteHappy knitting everyone!
My knitting goal is to reduce the stash and my personal goal is to a more positive person (although it is true that these have also been resolutions in previous years....!)
ReplyDeleteI've been knitting for about three years now and have pretty much mastered socks and hats. My goal this year is to learn some new techniques, try some different kinds of projects and work up to knitting sweaters. The Mystery Knit Along seems like a great way to start a new and different project. The only decision I need to make is the color.
ReplyDeleteWell I never win anything but I will at least answer your question: My goal is to do shawls this year. Not a normal pattern for me to take on but am trying to broaden my pattern selections.
ReplyDeleteWould love to win. I hope to lose some weight this year. Also my biggest goal is to knit a Christmas stocking for each grandchild to have for Christmas 2012. Have one done and 6 to go. My mother had one knit for ecah of us kids then knit one for every one of her grandchildren and I plan to continue the tradition.
ReplyDeleteI would like to improve my lace skills, maybe try some nupps. I want to knit a lace shawl and a sweater. I love your patterns and appreciate the opportunity to win this.
ReplyDeleteTo focus, follow-through and finish are my goals for 2012, especially when it comes to knitting!
ReplyDeleteMy goal this year is to follow through on my projects from start to finish. I have a tendancy to complete things to 95% and lose interest or momentum. I started the year finishing last years projects. Second goal is to knit from the stash, which is overflowing and currently unruly. Hoping to tame the beast in 2012. That said, would love the KAL yarn and beads. Love a good mystery.
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love a mystery knit-along!!! I'm hoping to actually make a couple things for myself this year! Plus, my big goal is to learn to knit socks.
ReplyDeleteRavID: jhoops7
What a lovely prize to win! thank you for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteMy goals this year are to finish a sweater with a Scooby Doo design on it that I started for my grandson, but has been driving me crazy,to finish up two or three small doll projects that are languishing while I concentrate on the sweater, and then to make a shawl - for me!!!
I'm FelicityS on Ravelry.
Wow, that's really pretty. What would I like to accomplish this year? I'd like to either finish or frog all those WIPs that have been hanging around my closet.
ReplyDeleteThat is some lovely yarn and beads, and it would be great to finally knit something with beads. A good way to kick off the year.
ReplyDeletewow, what an awesome colour!
