Mica Mitts: September's Adorn Anew Pattern! (w/ Giveaway!)
Introducing Mica Mitts... Adorn Anew's September pattern.
It’s time for a pair of fabulous fingerless gloves, don’t you think? These mitts are meant to be worked with a soft and luxurious yarn. I used Shalimar Yarns new base Homage in Columbine and it was perfect for this project! Mica Mitts are worked in a twisted rib stitch with a beaded feather and fan center panel and a decorative thumb gusset. The pattern includes instructions and a video for placing beads onto stitches, no pre-stringing with this design. I originally swatched the idea for a beaded feather and fan stitch earlier this spring when I was filming my Craftsy Knitting with Beads class... I swore (on camera, I believe) that I would incorporate it into a pattern soon!
The Mica Mitt pattern is available both individually and as part of Adorn Anew... you choose. I'm having such a fun time with this project, it's wonderful to be exploring new techniques and beaded stitches with you all!
Anyone want to win the same yarn and beads I used to make these for yourself? I've got yarn left from my skein that I'd LOVE to share! Just leave a comment by Tuesday September 11th letting me know which pattern in Adorn Anew you are enjoying the most... I can't wait to hear what you are loving!
My favorite is the Mica Mitts so I would love to win a kit for this pattern.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the Mica Mitts also. Very pretty!

Well Laura - I made the Mudra necklace and cuff for my sister for her birthday and she loves them! So, I was going to say those were my favourites, however, I think these fingerless mitts might have become a favourite too. They are gorgeous! Thanks for the opportunity to win yarn and pattern.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this pattern ... these mtits will go on my needles this afternoon. Thank You for such inspiring and creative choices.
ReplyDeleteThose are very pretty. I just may make a pair. I use fingerless when I am playing guitar. Are the beads just on the back of the hands? Love them.
ReplyDeleteThese mitts are beautiful! I'm so excited to make them for my sister, she named her son Micah so she definately gets the first pair!!
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra cuffs are my faves so far (3 together), but I'd love to win this yarn and see if these mitts can take over the championship position!
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra cuffs are my faves so far (3 together), but I'd love to win this yarn and see if these mitts can take over the championship position!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Mica Mitts! My daughter would just flip over these as a Christmas gift from me to her. The are just another example of your beautiful work and I'd just love to be able to knit them up. I love all of your work so this was a tough choice but in the end it was these all the way!!!
ReplyDeletetamayaya aka Tammy M.
I also love the Mudra cuffs, but these mitts are lovely, as are all your designs!
ReplyDeleteOoooh! Perfect timing! I want to start on some gloves for BFF Christmas presents, but want to knit in beads. Love this pattern and can't wait to start on it!
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely, Laura. I admit (and don't shoot me) that I am not a huge jewellery person, but I love fingerless mitts. As a primary school teacher in the UK I wear them all winter when on playground duty. It keeps my hands warm while still allowing me to peel thirty oranges/bananas, do up coats, patch up scrapes and apply ice packs...
ReplyDeleteI may even learn how to bead in order to make these. Thanks for your hard work. I envy you your job.
Love this pattern - I just finished another pair of fingerless gloves and am thinking everyone I know needs their own pair for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteSo much beauty; so hard to choose...... Okay the mitts win - now I hope I do too :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your designs!
I am making my first project the mystery KAL Trapeze. I've admired some other designs from afar but the KAL came at just the right time and I'm having such fun. Now I am going to have to make these mitts. I planned to knit a pair this fall and thought I had a plan but that has now changed. Love the pattern and the color. I would love to knit this lovely pattern in this gorgeous color. Thanks and celebrating.
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra cuff is my favorite so far, however these mitts are beautiful - have never done gloves but will need to give these a try! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
ReplyDeleteThese mitts are beautiful - I think my favorite so far though is the Mudra cuff. I've made two and have plans for more!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the Mudra Cuff too, looks so distinctive
ReplyDeleteI love these Mica Mitts! Both my sisters would love to have a pair - and so would I!
ReplyDeleteI love the Mudra Cuff!
ReplyDeleteI love feather and fan, and mitts and I have a sister who would totally rock these! This pattern is definitely going on my Christmas knitting list. :D
ReplyDeleteOh my!! The mitts are absolutely beautiful!! To this point, I have really enjoyed knitting the Mudra cuffs, with several destined for gifting.
ReplyDeleteI love the Mica Mitts so it would be great to win a kit for this pattern.
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are my new favorite!
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are my new favorite too! they are so pretty! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra cuff is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteI have the bug after pioneer cuff on craftsy! Mudra cuff is favorite but love them all.
ReplyDeleteNow how am i going to knit this and the current Mystery KAL!? Oh, how I will find a way!! Would love a pair (selfishly) for myself.... :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! This is my favorite pattern from Adorn Anew so far. I was planning to make the mudra necklace and cuffs, and bought a selection of wooden rings for the necklace, but have yet to dive through the bead stash for the beads. Now that I have seen these mitts, I know I will be making them soon.
ReplyDeleteWould love to make these Mica Mitts. Love the color, love the beads.
ReplyDeleteMica mitts by far
ReplyDeleteLove these mitts. I'm taking your Craftsy class Knitting with Beads & I've learned so much about using beads in my knitting. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! So elegant.
ReplyDeleteGreat design! These mitten would be perfect for the fall coming too soon! Before this pattern, my favorite from Adorn Anew was the Trio necklace (I love the "Butin on steroids"!), as I enjoy so much my Butin necklace and would love another necklace with the same vibe. But now, for sure, this pair of mitten is my new favorite!
ReplyDeleteThese Mica Mitts have captivated me! The design is wonderful and I couldn't help notice the ring in the second picture. Are those your hands, Laura? Gorgeous and alluring mitts :) Would love to win the yarn and beads to make these
ReplyDeleteThose mitts are gorgeous, and I'm dying to knit one of the Mudra cuffs, too!
ReplyDeleteLove them all - can't decide which to do first. Well, ok, probably the mitts. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitt is FABULOUS!! I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteRav ID: jhoops7
Funny, I was just thinking about some fingerless mitts with feather and fan so love the pattern but then I have enjoyed all of the patterns.
ReplyDeleteOh, it is so hard to choose. I love both the Medallion bracelet and the Mudra cuff, which is odd because I rarely wear bracelets. I'll have to change that.
ReplyDelete(still working on my Skywalker, BTW, but now the kids are back in school I'll have the time to get focus on it and finish)
I love the Mica Mitts. I love everything that you design. I take your classes, you explain everything so well and make it easy. My fear of lace knitting is gone. I would love to win any one of your kits.
ReplyDeleteWhile I have been admiring the Mudra Cuff, today's release of the Mica Mitts might just push me over the edge. They would be just the thing for the Jane Austen tea held locally in June.....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work!
Definitely the Mica Mitts, gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThe Medallion cuff is my favorite - right down my alley. Just love doing it in so many colourways with all the sparkley beads I have. thanks so much for the new cuff pattern. Every month is like Christmas as I wait impatiently for your new pattern release.
ReplyDeleteMaureen
The mitts are great, but I really love the Medallion cuff!
ReplyDeleteMost enjoying my Mudra Cuff! These mitts are beautiful! Thank you for the opportunity to win :)
ReplyDeleteMost enjoying my Mudra Cuff! These mitts are beautiful! Thank you for the opportunity to win :)
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra cuff is my favorite, although these new Mica Mitts may give the cuffs a run for their money. I've never made mitts before and I'm still new at lace patterns, but I might give these a try after the Trapeze MKAL is done. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are gorgeous! Number One in my book!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite so far is the medallion cuff- love it!
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra set for sure!
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra set for sure!
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra cuff I knit for my daughter was lovely; however, I love the laciness of Medallion a bit more, plus the unusual way it comes together at the closing. Living now in the southwest, from N.E., I still feel the cold here in winter and the fingerless mitts will be wonderful, with exceptional added beauty from the laciness and beads!
ReplyDeleteI actually like these mitts the best :) I'm not much for knit jewelry (I love silver far too much as all the rings, earrings and necklaces will show) but I'm a sucker for fingerless mitts (to show off the rings, of course hehe)!
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra Cuff is definitely at the top of the list; but, I am pretty confident that I will be enjoying the Mica Mitts pattern, as well... hope I win!
ReplyDeleteI think this one may be my favorite thus far, though the Mudra is pretty special...
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are just amazing and this yarn just looks like it feels luxurious,,,,like you're getting a hand massage the entire time they are on!
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are just the ticket...I've been wanting to make a pair of fingerless mitts and these would be perfect! My other choice would be the cuffs...but truthfully, they are all great!
ReplyDeleteThese mitts are pretty but the Mudra Cuff is still my favourite!
ReplyDeleteThese mitts are so pretty, I'm actually off to order Adorn Anew now!! I'm currently working on Circulate, finished my Butin collar and am working on the MKAL too!!! But, I think I need to add the Mudra cuff and these mitts to my collection!!! Another gorgeous pattern!! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are soooo pretty! They are my fav. so far. Thanks for the chance :-)
ReplyDeleteI like the Mica Mitts best so far! Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMica Mitts! Thanks for the video and no pre-stringing!
ReplyDeleteI was planning on Mudra cuffs for Xmas gifts but I think these mitts might head to the top of my queue.
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are beautiful. They'll make wonderful gifts for those special someones on our lists. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are my fave in the collection so far!
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are beautiful! My 2 nieces are professional violinists and they love these fingerless mitts for playing in cold venues and cathedrals in Europe. I think they are on the list for Christmas presents!
ReplyDeleteIt's a toss up between these Mica Mitts and the Mudra cuff, which I still adore. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I think these mitts are my favorite from the collection!
ReplyDeleteLove the mudra design
ReplyDeleteI liked the Medallion or the Mica Mitts. Truthfully, the are all beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLeanne
Wow. The Mica Mitts might be my new favourite. The detailing is superb–and surprising, surprising in the sense of uncovering a little flower you didn't expect to see in your garden. The pretty ladder of YOs climbing the thumb, the use of reverse stockinette to contrast with the lace, the dual columns of twisted stitches to define the thumb gusset, continuing all the way down the wrist...
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to see something different, something original in any pattern, let alone a pattern for a simple garment like fingerless mitts. The elements are all old friends–feather and fan, showing the purl side of stockinette, twisted stitches–but the way they are combined makes for something as fresh as this morning. The changes from purl ground, to lace, to lace-with-beads creates a texture gradient pleasing to the eye. I'll bet these mitts are also pleasing to touch and wear: warmth with ventilation, the softness of the yarn combined with the small weight of beads along the back, carefully tailored but definitely not austere.
I sound like a press release, don't I? Sorry. I never enter contests because I am so blessed anyway, but I've been writing all day and when I saw these mitts, I just kind of kept on writing in my usual wordy way. :)
Great job, my friend.
Sandi
Oh MY, Sandi Wiseheart commented on my blog????? (insert happy big grin here)
DeleteThanks SO much for your artful writing... I do believe I need to hire you to write copy for me, you really know how to put those nouns and adjectives together! xoxoxoxo

DeleteOh Ms. Nelkin, I think those Mica Mitts may be my new favorite! What beautiful detail! I would absolutely love to make these and would proudly show them off at Yarn Cupboard's annual retreat!
DeleteSo far the Mudra Cuff is my favorite, but now I have to get Mica on my needles!
ReplyDeleteThese mitts are so beautiful! And I love the colour of the yarn! I'm very intrigued by the Trio necklace as well though! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. What a gorgeous pattern. I want to make a pair for my daughter. Immediately!
ReplyDeleteThese mitts are definitely my favorite! And they look like a perfect project for that extra half skein of yarn that's always leftover from knitting a large shawl :)
ReplyDeleteI think the Mudra cuff is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteThe Mudra cuff is my favorite so far.
ReplyDeleteI LUV, LUV, LUV the mica mitts & Shalimar was one of my favorite drool booths at Stitches! So, puleeez pick me? : ))
ReplyDeleteOoh it's so tough to choose. My favorites are the Medallion Cuff and the new Mica Mitts. I have just discovered mitt patterns and love their elegance. Very Jane Austen don't you think?
ReplyDeleteMica Mitts are just beautiful. I purchased the pattern and will be making them for my daughter. She is a real fan of fingerless mitts and being a Diva, will love the beads.
ReplyDeleteThese are GORGEOUS. My favourite to date is the Mudra Cuff: so pretty even my mother who swore she didn't want knitted jewellery wants one!
ReplyDeleteBonjour,
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful mittens !
In Adorn Anew, I prefer Trio Earrings, because they are pretty, quickly done with a tiny amount of material (can be left-over stash).
Thanks for the give-away.
Sorry, possibility for a double comment.
These Mica Mitts...maybe in a more intense shade of blue?
ReplyDeleteThe mica mitts pattern is lovely. I love Shalimar Yarns!

ReplyDeleteI like them all but if I must pick then I go for the Mudra cuff or the mica mitts or.....
ReplyDeleteI think the Mudra cuff has to be my favorite so far, and for several reasons. I've never seen bead knitting done this way, and this project seems like it would take a minimum of time and supplies to finish. To me, that means endless possible combinations!
ReplyDeleteI like all the patterns in the Adorn Anew, but the Mica Mitts are my favorite so far and I want to start knitting them first and would love to win this yarn and the beads, beside the fact that Blue has always been my favorite color and this blue is scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteThe Mica Mitts are gorgeous! I may have to try them, they are so beautiful. After I make them, I will have to wear them somewhere equally elegant.

ReplyDeleteThese mitts are an inspiration to try beading. I've signed up for the beading class on Craftsy, but haven't done it yet. Am also teaching a class at a local center and these mitts would be a lovely example of creativity at work! Bless you for offering a kit to make them.

I love knitting jewelry, but these will be of great use. I have RA and my hands are always cold, so I have many fingerless glove/mitt patterns (I can't text or knit with gloves), but these will be great for those "special occasions" when the basics just don't have the right pizazz.
