Mica Mitts: September's Adorn Anew Pattern! (w/ Giveaway!)

Mica Mitts
Introducing Mica Mitts... Adorn Anew's September pattern.
Mica Mitts
It’s time for a pair of fabulous fingerless gloves, don’t you think?  These mitts are meant to be worked with a soft and luxurious yarn. I used Shalimar Yarns new base Homage in Columbine and it was perfect for this project!  Mica Mitts are worked in a twisted rib stitch with a beaded feather and fan center panel and a decorative thumb gusset.  The pattern includes instructions and a video for placing beads onto stitches, no pre-stringing with this design.  I originally swatched the idea for a beaded feather and fan stitch earlier this spring when I was filming my Craftsy Knitting with Beads class... I swore (on camera, I believe) that I would incorporate it into a pattern soon!
Mica Mitts
The Mica Mitt pattern is available both individually and as part of Adorn Anew... you choose.  I'm having such a fun time with this project, it's wonderful to be exploring new techniques and beaded stitches with you all!
Mica Mitts
Anyone want to win the same yarn and beads I used to make these for yourself? I've got yarn left from my skein that I'd LOVE to share! Just leave a comment by Tuesday September 11th letting me know which pattern in Adorn Anew you are enjoying the most... I can't wait to hear what you are loving!

  2. Well Laura - I made the Mudra necklace and cuff for my sister for her birthday and she loves them! So, I was going to say those were my favourites, however, I think these fingerless mitts might have become a favourite too. They are gorgeous! Thanks for the opportunity to win yarn and pattern.

  5. These mitts are beautiful! I'm so excited to make them for my sister, she named her son Micah so she definately gets the first pair!!

  8. Definitely the Mica Mitts! My daughter would just flip over these as a Christmas gift from me to her. The are just another example of your beautiful work and I'd just love to be able to knit them up. I love all of your work so this was a tough choice but in the end it was these all the way!!!

  10. Ooooh! Perfect timing! I want to start on some gloves for BFF Christmas presents, but want to knit in beads. Love this pattern and can't wait to start on it!

  11. These are lovely, Laura. I admit (and don't shoot me) that I am not a huge jewellery person, but I love fingerless mitts. As a primary school teacher in the UK I wear them all winter when on playground duty. It keeps my hands warm while still allowing me to peel thirty oranges/bananas, do up coats, patch up scrapes and apply ice packs...

I may even learn how to bead in order to make these. Thanks for your hard work. I envy you your job.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Love this pattern - I just finished another pair of fingerless gloves and am thinking everyone I know needs their own pair for Christmas!

  13. So much beauty; so hard to choose...... Okay the mitts win - now I hope I do too :-)

  14. I am making my first project the mystery KAL Trapeze. I've admired some other designs from afar but the KAL came at just the right time and I'm having such fun. Now I am going to have to make these mitts. I planned to knit a pair this fall and thought I had a plan but that has now changed. Love the pattern and the color. I would love to knit this lovely pattern in this gorgeous color. Thanks and celebrating.

  15. The Mudra cuff is my favorite so far, however these mitts are beautiful - have never done gloves but will need to give these a try! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  26. Wow! This is my favorite pattern from Adorn Anew so far. I was planning to make the mudra necklace and cuffs, and bought a selection of wooden rings for the necklace, but have yet to dive through the bead stash for the beads. Now that I have seen these mitts, I know I will be making them soon.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Would love to make these Mica Mitts. Love the color, love the beads.

  28. Love these mitts. I'm taking your Craftsy class Knitting with Beads & I've learned so much about using beads in my knitting. Thank you.

  29. Great design! These mitten would be perfect for the fall coming too soon! Before this pattern, my favorite from Adorn Anew was the Trio necklace (I love the "Butin on steroids"!), as I enjoy so much my Butin necklace and would love another necklace with the same vibe. But now, for sure, this pair of mitten is my new favorite!

  35. Oh, it is so hard to choose. I love both the Medallion bracelet and the Mudra cuff, which is odd because I rarely wear bracelets. I'll have to change that.
(still working on my Skywalker, BTW, but now the kids are back in school I'll have the time to get focus on it and finish)

  36. I love the Mica Mitts. I love everything that you design. I take your classes, you explain everything so well and make it easy. My fear of lace knitting is gone. I would love to win any one of your kits.

  37. While I have been admiring the Mudra Cuff, today's release of the Mica Mitts might just push me over the edge. They would be just the thing for the Jane Austen tea held locally in June.....

    Beautiful work!

  38. Definitely the Mica Mitts, gorgeous.

  39. The Medallion cuff is my favorite - right down my alley. Just love doing it in so many colourways with all the sparkley beads I have. thanks so much for the new cuff pattern. Every month is like Christmas as I wait impatiently for your new pattern release.

  43. The Mudra cuff is my favorite, although these new Mica Mitts may give the cuffs a run for their money. I've never made mitts before and I'm still new at lace patterns, but I might give these a try after the Trapeze MKAL is done. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  44. The Mica Mitts are gorgeous! Number One in my book!

    ReplyDelete
  45. My favorite so far is the medallion cuff- love it!

    ReplyDelete
  46. The Mudra cuff I knit for my daughter was lovely; however, I love the laciness of Medallion a bit more, plus the unusual way it comes together at the closing. Living now in the southwest, from N.E., I still feel the cold here in winter and the fingerless mitts will be wonderful, with exceptional added beauty from the laciness and beads!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I actually like these mitts the best :) I'm not much for knit jewelry (I love silver far too much as all the rings, earrings and necklaces will show) but I'm a sucker for fingerless mitts (to show off the rings, of course hehe)!

    ReplyDelete
  48. The Mudra Cuff is definitely at the top of the list; but, I am pretty confident that I will be enjoying the Mica Mitts pattern, as well... hope I win!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think this one may be my favorite thus far, though the Mudra is pretty special...

  65. Wow. The Mica Mitts might be my new favourite. The detailing is superb–and surprising, surprising in the sense of uncovering a little flower you didn't expect to see in your garden. The pretty ladder of YOs climbing the thumb, the use of reverse stockinette to contrast with the lace, the dual columns of twisted stitches to define the thumb gusset, continuing all the way down the wrist...

It's so nice to see something different, something original in any pattern, let alone a pattern for a simple garment like fingerless mitts. The elements are all old friends–feather and fan, showing the purl side of stockinette, twisted stitches–but the way they are combined makes for something as fresh as this morning. The changes from purl ground, to lace, to lace-with-beads creates a texture gradient pleasing to the eye. I'll bet these mitts are also pleasing to touch and wear: warmth with ventilation, the softness of the yarn combined with the small weight of beads along the back, carefully tailored but definitely not austere.

I sound like a press release, don't I? Sorry. I never enter contests because I am so blessed anyway, but I've been writing all day and when I saw these mitts, I just kind of kept on writing in my usual wordy way. :)

    Great job, my friend.

  163. I love knitting jewelry, but these will be of great use. I have RA and my hands are always cold, so I have many fingerless glove/mitt patterns (I can't text or knit with gloves), but these will be great for those "special occasions" when the basics just don't have the right pizazz.
