Book Review & GiveAway: 10 Secrets!
Perhaps you've run across 10 Secrets of a Laid Back Knitter by Vicki Stiefl and Lisa Souza? Since I received it in the beginning of the fall, I've kept it lying around so I can read snippets at my leisure. There are so many fun tid-bits and stories in this book, it makes for great reading! Little vignettes are spread throughout the book about fibers artist, knitters, spinners, friendships, musings, knitting factoids and more... which makes it SO fun to flip through!
Oh, and the patterns.... I bet you want to know about them! Vicki and Lisa collected patterns that are gorgeous, fun, functional, and wearable. They both contributed to the book AND had great designers like Sivia Harding, Rosemary Hill, Daniel Yuhas, Rebecca Danger (and more!) share patterns.
Just look at Rebecca's Melvin the Musical Monsters!
And Sivia's Smoked Jewels Hooded Shawlette
(LOVE the construction on this!)
(LOVE the construction on this!)
And The Prospero Hoodie by Justin Turner!

My secret is that I woke up from a dream about work, so clearly I need knittig decompression.
ReplyDeleteI have been eyeing that book for a while now and would love it. My secret is that I knit at stoplights. My knitting is always with me for those quick minutes to knit a round or two.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a HUGE secret, but my knitting philosophy is 'if I'm sitting, I'm knitting' and that gets quite a bit of knitting done and makes me feel productive even when resting. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
ReplyDeleteI've been eyeing this book for a while :) I spose my secret is that although I'm usually up to do whatever my friends want to do, mostly I'd prefer to stay at home and do nothing.

I knit and I want to win.
ReplyDeleteMy secret is that I lost 20 pounds while knitting the last sweater that I knit. It didn't fit - so I seamed it on a sewing machine. Cheater cheater!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great book. I would love to win it!
ReplyDeleteMy secret is that I long for a week long knit-cation, by myself at a bed and breakfast, away from everyone, and free of responsibilities.
ReplyDeleteThe books looks fantastic! That hooded shawl - loverly. My secret is I hide my yarn and other knitting purchases from my husband. I'm home before him so I can grab the packages and put them in my messy craftroom. I've even gone so far as to take the opened packaging into work to throw away! Not that he would say anything but... So if I won I could proudly show him the box and honestly say "it didn't cost me/him anything!!"
ReplyDeleteI have seen that book around, and really want to read it!
ReplyDeleteThis book looks really interesting!
ReplyDeleteI've secretly always wanted to try knitting one of Rebecca Danger's monsters-- but I'm not-so-secretly stingy with my money (even to my own chagrin)! It'd be such a special treat to WIN it.
ReplyDeleteOoh, those monsters are so cute! I'd love to increase my knitting book collection. It's pathetically small right now.
ReplyDeleteOh you got me at the Musical Monsters, would love to put my paws on this book!
ReplyDeleteThat book looks awesome! My secret? I.hide.yarn! Lots of it, so Hubby doesn't know how much there really is.

ReplyDeleteThis book looks lovely! I guess my knitting secret would be knitting into the wee hours of the morning, I get so much more done while the rest of the world is sleeping!
ReplyDeleteThose little monsters are too cute! My knitting secret is that I spit splice everything--doesn't matter how little wool content there is.
ReplyDeleteMy secret is just to have fun! Do it with love!

ReplyDeleteOh wow, I want to knit every single one of the patterns you picked out, and several more to boot (the mitts! the hat! and how cool are those Elfin Leaves!)
ReplyDeleteHere's a secret... I love the look of cables and travelling stitches but I detest knitting them. Actually, individual accent cables are okay. But travelling stitches, especially when there's a lot... ugh, they drive me crazy.

Secret: I found I had a twist in my circularly knitted sweater. So I steeked it, and sewed it back together. Sssh!
I'd love to win this book. My secret: while I'm generally fairly laid-back about life, I'm not a laid-back knitter. I'm and obsessive-compulsive perfectionist when it comes to my knitting. Well, that may not actually be a secret from people who have seen me knit.
ReplyDeleteSheilaOKeefe on Rav
What a cool mix of patterns. My secret: I'm cheating on my knitting with spinning right now ... don't tell the needles a wheel is on the way.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like an excellent book! Thanks for the contest...
ReplyDeleteI secretly want to call out of work today so that i can be home knitting :-)

My secret? I'm pumping (breastmilk) at work a bit longer than I should - mainly so I can have longer knitting time! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great book for my library, I'd love to add it! I think one of my secrets is I love to pet my stash. In the wee hours of the morning as I head to bed I have to pass the glass front cabinet where I keep most of my stash. I usually look through knitting books just prior to going to bed so I have all these patterns floating in my head. It just seems natural to open the cabinet and feel the yarn, hold it to my cheek and yes, even smell of it, trying to hear it telling me what it wants to be!
ReplyDeleteDee
I would love the patterns you have mentioned & that is only a few from the book.I am a book lover. Rinebird on Rav

Love the hooded sweater. My secret (which isn't so secret as I'm in public) is that I knit during seminars and conferences because it keeps me awake and listening. And all that time is doubly productive. I've learned new things for my job and have a knitted item as well.
ReplyDeleteLovely! My secret is that besides knitting, I'm also a nail polish addict. It's not really a secret if you've ever seen my hands in real life - always a different color :]

I would love to win that book! It looks like it has some great patterns. My secret is that I'm collecting my dog's fur (a Sheltie) and am planning on sending it to a spinner (Chiengora) to have it made into some yarn; I'm thinking a pair of gloves. My husband thinks that's a little creepy... do you?
ReplyDeleteTrains, people. I commute over an hour each way, which is not ideal, but it means 2 hours straight knitting time per day. Can't do that in a car!
ReplyDeletelibbythomas on Rav
Lovely sweater!
ReplyDeleteOooh, this book sounds fun! My secret? I knit in the car, while my hubby is driving. He hates to be the passenger while I drive, so if we are both in the car, he drives, I knit.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to win this book and learn everyone's secrets. :-)

ReplyDeleteI would love to win this book!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking book. My secret is, well, secret....
ReplyDeleteLooks like an interesting book. I was telling my kids that I find knitting very relaxing and they were like, "What!? You are always totally stressed out about not having the correct number of stitches on the needle!" And I was like, oh, right, there are those moments of frustration. I guess I just forget about those quickly!
ReplyDeleteMy secret my favorite knits are baby things. Unfortunately I have no
ReplyDeletebabies.
